Atkins after wls??
Anyone tried doing Atkins after their weight loss surgery? I know we all are supposed to do low carb, but I'm not sure of anyone doing anything as strict as Atkins.
I can tolerate fat more now and I'm thinking I need Atkins to jump start my loss more. I'm really slowing down big time, so I am considering going strict at least for awhile...anyone have any thoughts? Oh yeah - I have PCOS which apparently causes many to stall. Atkins might be the only real effective thing for me...

Hooboy. Well, I did okay for a couple days and then GAINED weight which was annoying. It was definitely water retention though because my rings were way too tight, and I did just start my period, so it makes sense. But still, it leaves a bad taste in your mouth! I was even watching my calories as well, but it didn't help. Funny too - usually it gets rid of my water retention!
I may try again soon. Right now I'm back on my apple kick.

Hi dina,
i have tried like to hell to do atkins.. It didn't work for me pre-op and it isn't much easier post-op.. I do try like hell to do low carbs but I still manage too many in any given day..
I too was dx with PCOS, insulin resistant, and type 2 diabetes. (pre-op) I know this is a major factor for me.. every little carb is evil in my body!!
I totaly get the concept of atkins. I simply can't do it long term.. I gave up sugar with out a fight, I can live with out white carbs 90% of the time.. but fruit and veggies?? no, I can't do it!! yes, you are aloud to have them at some point on the atkins maitence program but it's very limited.
anyway, good luck if you choose to do this. I hope your stronger than I am..

I used to do really well on Atkins as far as being able to stick to it, but I think the thing is now I'm too neurotic about calories so I don't want to go there. It's silly really though - I know I would lose okay on it. I just am afraid.
As for it being good, well, I know it did wonderful things for me years ago but I'm just struggling to get back in the groove now. Partially because things have changed in my fat-eating department and I sooooooooooo love my cream cheese!
