Aetna Insurance

Has anyone delt with Aetna Insurance? Last spring when I talked to them they told me it was up to 60 days to get approval for WLS. I was wondering if anyone had recently gotten approval any faster. I met with the nurse at OHSU on Aug. 31st and I would like to get the surgery done before the end of this year. Now a time complication has set in. My kids sent us non refundable air line tickets to visit them for the Christmas Holidays. We will be leaving on Dec. 17th. So I need to feel well enough to travel by then. Any one have suggestions on how to speed the approval along? Thanks for any suggestions, Tanna

Oh boy Tanna - I can't speak for the insurance, but I hope you are able to get it done in enough time. I will say though that I had surgery in Mexico and flew home a week later. I was absolutely fine and I had an open RNY. So if you have to go within a couple weeks, you'll likely do okay as long as you make sure you don't have to lift any luggage or anything like that. Dina

I was able to get a copy of Aetna's requirement info. As I and the nurse read through it, with my medical problems, I only need the 3 months diet and exercise program which I have completed. I am continuing the program because I feel better doing so. As far as we can tell I have met all of their requirements, the Dr's requirements and now I am waiting for their approval. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks for your input. Tanna
