Post-ops......do you still enjoy cooking?

I'm noticing that I don't really want to cook. I'm currently not interested in eating much of anything, but I force myself to get my protein in. But, I've had a few remarks from the household.....I'm not cooking homemade meals much right now. Of course, since the remarks I've made an attempt to do more, like the stew last night but the enjoyment and desire to do it just isn't there. Did any of you experience this? Michele

I sure have. Can't stand the smell and nothing tastes very good to me. Husband's getting sick of it, but he'll just have to wait until this passes (which I hear it will in time). I am only three weeks out, but don't like the same textures of things and don't like the same tastes of things. I don't get it. Anyway, tomorrow is my three week post-op check up so it will be interesting to see what the weight loss is. My scale and Dr. Hong's don't match so I'll wait and see what his says. Pam

Hi Michele, I have never liked to cook. Now that I'am post-op,it's gotten worse. I have been cooking with the crock pot lately. I bought a slow cooker cook book,so have been trying some reciepes from that and I'm gone all day at work so don't have to smell it. I don't have to cook for everyone when I get home from work. I can just have a Tuna or Chicken salad and the Family has a hot meal. ~Jeanne -80 lbs

Great idea about the crockpot...especially with the weather turning. I generally use it during the rainy, cold months. Thanks for the tip! Michele

I got nauseous a few times, but I still like to get in there. My problem is that I get overheated and then I can't eat...nothing sounds good. I think the desire to cook will come back in due time!!! Dina

I sure hope so......and so does everyone else in the house as they don't cook. Guess I'll have to start giving the kids lessons! Michele

Michele, I couldn't cook for over a month after surgery. The smell of food made me really sick! I was Very lucky that I had someone at home to cook, and my kids were old enough to feed themselves if necessary. Your household needs to understand that you just had Major surgery, so you can't be expected to do everything you did before until you recover completely. In time, you will be able to do much more than before surgery! Jeanne- a crock pot is a great idea! I need to do that more! Tammy

The smell doesn't bother me too much, but the thought of eating it sure does! Ugh! Unfortunately, I'm the only one who cooks around here. I did put alot of things in the freezer before surgery and they've been eating that up, but now it's pretty much gone. Michele

hi michele, I hated to cook in the first MONTHS post op.. hell I still don't enjoy it.. LOL but back then the smells made me ill. (I was at my moms early out and she had a peach pie *my fav* cooking in the oven.. the smell alone made me gag and I had to leave.. oh how I miss the early days) lucky for me I taught my kids to not only fend for them selfs but also to cook early on.. my oldest son wants to be a chef.. guess who does most of the cooking in my house??? however this is on my list of huge obstacles to over come while trying to loose weight.. I am a huge procrastinator who hates to cook.. in the begining it didn't matter becuase I wasn't/didn't get hungry... NOW it's a problem.. if you wait until your hungry before you figure out what your going to eat you tend to "graze".. or "taste" while your cooking.. bad, evil, bad, evil habits!! toooo many evil extra calories in "tasting"... so stay out of the kitchen as long as you can... LOL Theresa
