Do you miss food?
I'm sure there are others that have asked this before but here I go....do any of you that have had the surgery miss food? Was it or is it hard not to want to eat larger portions or eat things you shouldn't eat? I know it is all individual but just out of curiosity, how long did it take to get over the feeling of missing food? Thanks all for reading this I look forward to hearing from you.

Kristy -
Right now I am 6 months post op and I can say I don't really miss much of anything. But take that for what it is worth - I have a larger pouch than some others. Dr. Aguirre usually does a 2 oz pouch I guess, but I was blessed with a 4 from the start. (I'm guessing because of anatomical differences.)
But I can eat almost anything I really want with exception of heavy fats and sugary things. I can have fruit and sandwiches, etc. I cannot eat crackers alone as they mush into nothing and go straight through and make me dump. I can have them if they are with something. I can eat a donut (Yikes!) but I cannot have ice cream. Again, all these things because I dump. For me, dumping isn't as bad as for some. I never throw up, I just get a racing heart and feel like I need to lie down. I have been able to work through my most recent dumps okay though...although not fun, it wasn't enough for me to go home on.
I feel pretty free with what I can stomach, but I am trying to be a good girl. I can eat a few potato chips with a sandwich but anything more than that will make me queasy from the grease. So it's self-limiting. But I don't miss it - I just feel free from craving it. It's kind of like when you eat something you love and you get full of it. Well, same thing. Your mouth physically senses the fullness and you just don't want any more. Now this is for ME, and I know some with psychological issues may not get that feeling. I do know there have been times I have tasted something though and felt the urge to eat more but have to restrain myself as I know I'll dump. But I take that as a sugar reaction usually so I just try to watch it.
I am careful to avoid too much of things that pulverize into nothing like popcorn, etc. I can eat it until the cows come home because it's so airy it mushes into nothing in your pouch. By the time you fill up on it, you can eat way too many calories...esp if it's not low-fat.
Hope that helps a little.

I missed food A LOT for the first few months after surgery. Then the feeling went away and for two years, it was like there was NO willpower involved to stay awake from junk. Then I figured one little piece of cake wouldn't hurt and blew everything. Now I'm right back where I was before surgery fighting the damn sugar demon and missing food terribly! I have just one bit of advice- do not ever ever ever take a bite of anything you were addicted to before surgery! Don't even try it once! Because I am VBG, I don't dump, and I ate out my staple line, so I can eat as much of whatever I want, so its a constant battle not to regain the weight.
Good Luck,
Tammy
I am 8 weeks post and minus 65 pounds and I feel awesome...
I will say that not being able to FILL my plate like I used to was harder to get used to than actually EATING the food. My whole experience has been that eating now is a CHORE...a JOB! I HATE to eat. I am never hungry . So I hate measuring, calculating, figuring. And then eating when I am already FULL. But I was measuring, calculating and figuring on Weigh****chers, Atkins, Nutrisystems, diet pills to no avail with some success, just not losing as much as THIS. So, I might as well do it with WLS and that is FINALLY working.
I have yet to crave anything (knock on wood). My doc told me that when sugar or carbs are in your body, your body craves it. So, since surgery, I havent eaten any of that (Or VERY VERY VERY little) and my body doesnt crave it AT ALL!
It was all psychological for me as far as "missing the food". But LOSING the weight makes it all okay! hahaha.. And when I buy a size 14, it will feel better than anything I eat!
GOOD LUCK!
