First fill

It has been six weeks yesterday since I had surgery. On Wednesday I got my first fill of 1cc. He said my band only holds 4cc. I have now lost 25pnds. I had hoped for a larger fill but I understand why he is taking it slow. I go back in four weeks and see how I'm doing and maybe get another fill then. He said it all depends on my weight loss this month, since he doesn't want me to loose to quickly. Hope everyone is planning to have a good long week-end. I hope to get together with some of you soon. I look forward to giving and receiving support from others who understand what I am really going through. I don't think the people around me have a clue. I'm tired of them watching everything I eat to see if I'm really serious about this. Come on now- would I have gone all the way to L.A. to have this surgery and screw it up. This cost way to much on all sorts of levels(finances, health, emotional and spiritual). That alone is enough to keep me 98% on the straight and narrow. Off of my soap-box now. LOL, Anita

Hi Anita, Congrats on your wt loss. I'm just being nosey, but wondered why you chose to go to L.A for your surgery? I had my RNY at OHSU and I know they offer the Lap Band. Just curious.. Have a great weekend!! ~Jeanne -78lbs

Hi Jeanne, Congrats on your weight loss too. I went to L.A. because my insurance doesn't cover it in this area of the country. It is covered in Cal. and I grew up and lived there until 1990. I was able to stay with an old college roommate and reconnect with some special old friends. I hadn't been back to L.A. since 1992. The Dr. in L.A. had no problem accepting my insurance and me which two other Dr.'s in Cal. rejected. I have a history of Cushings disease so some Dr.'s just wouldn't bother with me. I had tried since Jan. to find a Dr. and finally called an old Dr. friend of mine from down south and he recommended Cedars. It was a piece of cake with them. From the first call to them everything that had been hassles with other Docs they said no problem. Frankly I didn't believe this was ever going to happen for me. It was a little risky taking a chance with the insurance but thank God they have paid the bills so far. Sorry this is so long. I know you didn't need all of this info. Anita

Anita - are you going all the way to LA for your fills? I have heard it is hard to get in to get fills if your doc is out of the area (at least for those who go to Mexico). Dina

Hi Dina, The first Dr. I went to see for the surgery was here in Portland so he is already familiar with me. I called his office and was told he does cash only fills for people who have had surgery elsewhere, including Mexico. It is Dr. Thomas Eubanks in S.E. Portland. As of today I have now lost 30pnds and I just can't believe it. I was able to go swimming today for the first time since surgery and was able to swim 50 lengths of the pool without stopping. I could really feel the difference of those 30pnds. I have a long ways to go but right now I feel great getting this far in only 6and a half weeks. Anita
