Hi everyone, it has been qutie awhile since I've been to this website. For the past 2 years I have been trying to find a way to get gastric bypass surgery covered on my insurance. I have faced a lot of issures and dissapointment. I'm sure there are many of you out there who know what I am talking about. My insurance will not pay for the surgery no matter what. Does anyone know or work for a company that does cover the surgery? Any information would help me. There is no way I can pay cash for the surgery and I can't get approved for a loan big enough to cover the surgery so I am seeking help. I am willing to change jobs but must be able to keep supporting my husband and myself. He goes to school full time and works part time so I am the money maker for now. Thanks everyone for your time, Kristy H.

Well, if you can live off $8 an hour, and a sucky job reading a script to people who call in everyday, I know of just the place! There insurance kicks in after 3 months and I know they cover WLS IF your MO and can get 3months supervised WL attempts under a PCP. Read my profile for info on how it's going..... I quit a higher paying job to take this JUST for the insurance. I don't like it, but it should work. I can't give you any guarentee, I just know whats written in the exclusions, you must be MO and have the 3months WL attempts.... I have my first appointment with a PCP in 3 weeks. Good luck to you, I have been there and KNOW exactly what your going through. Brandi

Brandi - just out of curiosity I was checking your profile but I didn't see the info on your job. That's really a wonderful thing to find a job with coverage even though it pays sucky. Dina

The bank I work for offers insurance that covers surgery. Once you are hired the insurance kicks in right away. You do have a choice between two different insurance plans depending upon where you live. I was stuck with only one option because I am in a remote area, but it covers the surgery. There is a small hospital deductible ($250-$500) and the insurance then covers 90% of the costs. My surgery is going to cost about $30,000. The insurance company told me that with my plan the most I'd pay out of pocket after the deductible is $1500 for any type of surgery, which is less than the 10% I thought I'd have to cover. My insurance didn't make me jump through any hoops and I didn't have to be referred by a PCP or anything like that. After my WLS doctor submitted for approval it was three weeks and I was approved. Let me know if you need any more help and good luck to you!

I am so happy there are still some insurance companies out there that are not so horrible about this. I didn't have the option of finding a new job for the insurance, but had I been able to, I would have. Dina

If you live within the Kaiser coverage area (I think you do), you can get a state job and can get on there. They cover if your bmi is over 50 with co-morbidities. I have heard Harry & David (based in Medford) has insurance that pays, and I know Federal BC/BS pays as well. Dina

I have been a pharmacy technicain for 7+ years. I enjoy my job but I don't need to stay in that field or work. I am willing to try something new in order to have insurance that would pay for the surgery. My health must become a priority. Thanks for asking. I appreciate you taking the time to look at my question. Kristy H.
