Marla - someone on the South of the Border forum just posted that she got a date scheduled with Dr. Aguirre (my doctor in Mexico) and that she could have bought her own insurance but that it would have been cheaper to go to Mexico and pay on her own. She said the premium was around $550 a month if I recall correctly, and she had to wait 6 months before she could use it for that, and was required to keep it for 3 years. I don't know about what kind of insurance it was, but you might check with her. I am leery about a contract keeping you for 3 years because they could drastically raise premiums and keep you bound to it. My surgery in Mexico with Dr. Aguirre was $8500. By the time I paid for me and a friend to stay at a resort (we were gone 9 days) I spent around $10,500 total. Getting a loan and paying monthly would be cheaper in the long run than getting the insurance... Dina
