Recovery time from Lap RNY
I know others have probaby asked this before but I got tired trying to look back at old posts for info on it.
I just wanted to get some feedback from those who had the Lap RNY. What I am curious about is your recovery times and how long it took you to get back to work. I know it varies for each individual but and just curious. My doctor told me anywhere between 2-4 weeks or so. I have a desk job so I'm not too worried. Any feedback would be great!
I would say I had a pretty smooth unevenful recovery, but I would not have been ready to go back to work in two weeks. At three weeks, I remember still feeling like I ran out of gas in the afternoon, after feeling quite energetic in the morning. I still needed a nap. It isn't only recovery from your incisions, but you can be dealing with benign but annoying things like a weeping incision, or an unexected (unwelcome) period that for me was heavier than normal, and just giving your system time to recover from the surgery itself and changes. I really needed time to get my head around my new eating habits.
I know others get antsy and can't wait to be back in the swing, or maybe the distraction of work is a positive thing that gets their mind moving in a way they need and enjoy. For me I took this recovery time as a renewal in interest in me, myself, and I. I took lots of bubble baths (once allowed), got a manicure, just allowed time to savior how happy I am that I finally got to the other side! I say take as long as you can. Even a desk job can be taxing on you.

Just adding my 2 cents worth, for me recovery was easy, I never really felt like a had anything done. Yes I had five holes with staples but the only thing that I really felt with them is itching. I did have one open up after my staples were out but, I bathed with anti-bacterial soap and it was closed back up the next day (the Dr. told me to do it) and I would say 2 weeks to adjust from the surgery, energy and such. I was taking walks in just a couple of days, the Dr. told me to slow down a bit but I felt soooo great and even at the beginning had extra energy. Good Luck!
