really bummed need information
Naw, perry had patterson cause I remember emailing him about the cottage cheese and tuna diet..LOL. Michelle, I agree, that profile is totally one of my favorites. I love that even after two years, she is still updating. I try to be good with mine, but I don't even have insurance yet, so there just isn't much to say..LOL.

I went to Dr. Patterson's seminar too, and met Dr. Hong. He is great also. Had I not chosen my surgeon, Dr. Ortiz, I would have happily had surgery with either Dr. Patterson or Dr. Hong.
Brandi is right though. There are a LOT of hoops to jump through. Dr. Patterson has an extremely strict pre-op regimen and a comprehensive post-op program. I believe that that speaks to her committment, abilities, and ethics.
As for the infamous cottage cheese and tuna fish diet--well, I don't know the details on what one eats when, but my understanding is that the purpose of the diet is twofold. 1) To help to lose weight pre-op in order to shrink the liver and 2) To prove to Patterson's team that you are able to make any necessary lifestyle changes post-op to be successful with the band. (Brandi, please correct me if I'm wrong though...)
Good luck to you, Renee. Keep your chin up!

Sorry, I don't know anything about those doctors u mentioned. I'm going thru Dr. Thomas Eubanks. Easy to get to from springfield, right off 205, johnson creek exit. he's at 91st and johnson creek. use to practice in washington state, but now in oregon. his staff and the doc are very helpful and easy to talk to. he also has taught other surgeons how to do the lapocospy procedure. i will be having the rny by lapocrospy. have gone thru all the hoops, just waiting for insurance to ok. i have cigna hmo.
Dr. Patterson is one of the most highly thought of surgeons in the field of WLS. Her waiting list is long. She brought on Dr. Hong, who in addition to his own surgical training, trained with her for some time related to this surgery.
I had my surgery April 6, with Dr. Hong. I really like and respect him, and my experiences with my surgery were very positive. He required the standard hoops (i.e., sleep study, phsych exam, lab tests, etc.), but did not go into any pre-surgery diet or weight loss requirement. After being tortured with this request with Kaiser for some time, I was relieved. I was so ready, and hoped I wouldn't be further delayed by another "get yourself prepared regime". Maybe he bases his decision on where each person is weight wise or preparedness wise, but luckily he didn't bring up tuna or cottage cheese.

WEll Seems to me the real question here is the Dr. Patterson's diet. I'm having surgery with DR.P on June 21, 2004, and needless to say I'm right in the middle of the woundful diet you are talking about.......ummmm can YOU say mercury poisioning?? lol lol...(Thats what one gets from to much tuna) ...When u see her about 4-6 weeks before sugery she puts u on it..... Breakfast is protein shake with 8 0z. of milk........then lunch and dinner are the same things. You can have as much of these things as u would like as long as u can eat them in 15- 20 mins. You can have one or all. Cottage cheese, canned tuna or cannned chicken,(not mixed together lol) Salad with balsmic vinger dressing. and then every couple of days u can have 6 0z lean meat and a veggie. It is that simple....or shoiuld i say BORING!! I guess her way of making u WANT to go on a liquid diet!!LOL I have had a very easy time dealing with her staff. They are very informed and always call me back. AS for Dr. P she is a spit fire........ lots of energy. Have had a great experience with them. Good luck with your choice!!!
