Looking for an Exercise Buddy
Hello Oregonians (and others!)
I am looking for an exercise buddy to help me stay motivated in increasing my activity level post-surgery. I am being banded on 5/14/04 but would love to begin exercising regularly as soon as possible after my surgery (I return on the 17th).
At this stage in my weight loss and the recovery of my health, I am interested in REGULAR, but moderate impact exercise. I'd like to begin exercizing 5 days/ week, Mon-Fri. What I would love is to set up a regular schedule with someone so that I have to keep committed to these changes in my activity level (this is by far my biggest obstacle!!!)
Initially, I am interested in walking, swimming, and water aerobics (the local pool is relatively inexpensive). Once I have proven that I am committed to exercising, I would be willing to spend money on a gym or on Curves or something (say, after 2 months). Eventually as I regain my health and get into shape, I would like to take a dance class, or Yoga, or fencing, or Tae Bo, or kickboxing, or something more strenuous.
I live in SW Portland (very close to Beaverton) and would love to meet someone local who would like to workout regularly. I'd also be interested in meeting other not so local people for less regular workouts (say once a week or so.)
If you are interested in having an exercise buddy beginning the week of 5/24 (as long as I have recuperated by then ) then email me!
Hope someone out there is interested!

Marcie!
I am very interested in having an excercise buddy. I'm having trouble staying motivated because I'm way toooooo social to do it alone!
I live in Garden Home but work near Beaverton Freddy's. I am currently a member of Griffith Park YMCA. They have several classes and a pool. Maybe I could sneak you in for awhile! Or, we could go to a place more convenient to you....whatever is fine.
I have my RN eval on May 28th, surgery will hopefully be in June...so I'm a little behind you.l
If you're interested, let me know. Maybe we can meet for a pop or java and talk about it.

Dina, Dina, Dina.......
Wish you could go with us! As for going to the gym, mine isn't too bad...not all that many "young-uns". And not that many hard-core hard-bodies. I don't feel uncomfortable, but I remember clubs I've gone to where I did.
I've heard Curves is great....about $29.00 per month and even some of the instructors are closer to our size!
Hopefully you can find someone down there. I can't believe Marcie and I actually live less than a couple of miles apart! She lives across the street from where my kids attend school! lol Must be fate!
Take care Dinka Doo...and I'll see you! (I'm such a poet) Shouldn't be too long before I get down your way.
Got my eval. w/the nurse on 5/28....happy to be moving forward!

Yeah Michele! You're getting closer to that golden scalpel!
As for joining a gym, I think I may do that but I want to get my routine down when I am back at work so I don't start something I can continue. I go back to work on Sunday night, so that won't be too long for me to get my routine going again.
Dina
Why thank you Dina sweets!
Marcie and I finally hooked up on the phone last night and made plans to meet after she gets back from being banded (kinda sounds like the old phrase "getting pinned"). I'm looking very forward to meeting her!
As for you....going back to work Sunday? Are you ready for it?
Just think about all the compliments you'll be getting on what you've lost so far!
My job is pretty sedentary, and I am part-owner of this company with my boyfriend so I can take off the time I need but I'm not thinking I'll need too much. I can work from home with my laptop (in bed in my jammies!) and a phone.
Have great last few days before returning to the routine of a job.
Blessings,
Michele
