The day before surgery you will do clear liquids. Around 12:00pm you will drink a bottle of Fleet soda stuff....the at 5:00 you will drink another bottle. I would like to say this is great tasting stuff...NOT!! Be prepared to wa**** down with water...juice or something that has some flavor. This is very salty. They say it is better chilled...I am not convinced. You will take so pre-op antibiotics and will also do a cleansing laxitive in addition to that soda stuff. It isn't tons of fun, but you will get through it knowing it is another part of the process. When it is all said and done, you will say it was totally worth doing the prep once you begin melting. Hope this helps... Karen

Karen, thanks so much for the information. How big are the bottles of fleet stuff I have to drinK? No enemas then? I hope not. Oh my God I am afraid I might gag, maybe plugging my nose while I drink it, will make it go down easier. Thanks again Ive been stressing over this

I've had to do a few bowel preps during my past illness and have to do one for my RNY. The fleet stuff is 1.5 oz. It taste terrible so plug your nose and get it down quickly. It made me gag but if I follow it with something to kill the taste I do better. My prep for RNY starts the day before surgery with a light meal in the AM and then start clear liquids at noon. At 4 PM I take the Fleet solution (1.5 oz) and then more clear liquids. Then at 9 PM I take 4 Fleet Bisacodyl tablets. One hour before leaving for the hospital I use a Fleet Suppository. To say I will be spending plenty of time in the bathroom is an understatement. The stuff really cleans you out. While it is an awful process you can get through it. Just remember that it is to benefit you. If something happened during surgery your bowel will be clean and that lessens any chance of infection. I've already warned everyone to make other plans for the day before my surgery. I will want my privacy while I suffer with the clean out! Good luck,
