I saw dr patterson on thursday. it was a great visit, even though i had to wait 2 hours to be seen. she said i was a great canidate for surgery, she would send the info to the insurance co, said it takes about 2 weeks with my insurance co. to get a responce and in the mean time to start the cottage cheese and tuna diet. ok, i understand the whole protein thing, but tuna??? cottage cheese??? i have only eaten it for 2 days and i am already sick of it. how did you get through it.

I modified it. Salads every day, but yes, I used dressing. Good Seasons Italian made with half the olive oil is fine. The tuna thing went bad fast. I switched to extra lean exotic meats like wild boar, venison, buffalo, rabbit, emu, and ostrich. I had to have some fruit so I got grapefruit canned in water from Costco. I love cottage cheese so when I did get tired of it, I either left it off for a day or two or sprinkled it with Tabasco sauce. A typical day: Breakfast: Champion Whey Stack protein shake, 1/2 cup grapefruit, 1/2 cup cottage cheese Lunch: Green salad with tomatoes, peppers, onions, cucumbers, and field greens w/Good Seasons dressing, 1/2 cup cottage cheese Afternoon snack: Champion Whey Stack protein shake Dinner: Grilled salmon 3 times per week, exotic meats grilled the other 4 times per week. Green salad with everything, Good Seasons dressing. Before bed if hungry, another protein shake. My husband insisted on doing the diet with me. I lost 21 pounds before surgery. He's lost 37 so far and is still doing the diet. Dr. P was very happy with me, and my surgery was totally uneventful. I've lost 11 more pounds since my banding on 10/13. Good luck!

Oh yeah I bet you are sick of it. But I think it is a test to see if you can do it or not! lol I read your profile and you have been through so much in your life--now to add cottage cheese to it--yuck--lol--you'll do great I'm sure! It isn't forever so that's a good thing to remember.....good luck!

Keri, Hopefully you're surviving the dreaded Patterson pre-op diet. Been there, done that. Could just about barf thinking about it. What's so unfair is that I had to go through all of that and didn't end up getting approved for insurance - Patterson wouldn't approve my paperwork going to insurance until I'd lost 20 lbs - then, when I did, they submitted, and denials across the board (twice, actually). Really sucky, huh?! I'm so glad I had my DS in Spain with Dr. Baltasar - no pre-op diet, no required weight loss, no bowel prep, no stress - just a wonderful, caring, human being - who just loves his patients, and gives his all to make them well. What a blessing! Good luck to you! dina
