Need ideas

Ok, most of you know my situation. but to sum up: I am broke, bring in about 1,000 a month after taxes, and my bills are about 920 a month for everything including misc expenses. I am employed full time, but have no insurance. I applied for an individual health plan with 2 companies and have been denied. I make too much for OHP My credit isn't the best, so a loan is out (my bank laughed when I asked for 2,000) I am ALWAYS looking for a good job that will pay more than what I make now or at the VERY LEAST have a policy that will cover WLS. I have mailed out numerous resumes, had a few interviews, no luck. I am not a student, have rising medical bills, need this surgery and can't figure anything out. My family doesn't have good credit nor lots of money, so them helping me is unlikely. Besides they think I haven't tried hard enough anyway. Saving 10K to go to mexico would still take years. I need ideas! What can I do? Where can I work? Grasping at straws!

Hi Brandi, I don't know if any of my suggestions will help, but I'm more than happy to help you try to think of ideas or just offer emotional support. I had surgery two years ago and was lucky that my insurance paid for it. Of course the first obvious suggestion is to get a job with insurance that will cover your surgery. What kind of work do you do? If you need to update your skills, there are places that you can go to learn new computer software for free (workforce connections, ETBS, & SE Works, to name a few). With updated computer skills you will qualify for higher paying jobs. Also, Check into getting financial aid or grants if you want to further your education. I can't imagine that you would not qualify with your income, but at the very least it's worth a try. You can apply online for free. Keep applying for OHP every quarter. They change they change the qualifications or have other plans or programs to offer that you might be eligible for. Lastly, you are doing GREAT by seeking information and staying focused on your goal. That's the first step. You can and WILL make this happen. Please email me if you'd like to chat or just need some emotional support. I also have a lot of experience writing resume's if you'd like some help with that. Tammy [email protected]

Thank you! I for sure am going to be applying for OHP every quarter! I know of a few cases where they have paid for the surgery. In the mean time, I am staying focused on finding a good job with good benefits. It's tough, but I figure there has to be something out there for me. My job skills are very current and I pretty much know PC's inside and out, it's just nobody wants to (or can) hire me. I would like to switch careers, but it's too late for grants since school started, but I am going to apply for next fall I think. I want to be an X ray tech I think. Not exactly sure though. Anyway, thanks for the advice, it's good to know there are people out there who care. Brandi

I know what you mean Brandi.. I am trying to raise money for a girl I met on here about 3 years ago. I have always been able to pull together something if I needed to and now that I want to help Dawn nothing I do pans out. She has a date in December.. after December the cost goes up to $8500 adding about $2000 to what we need... if only I could pull a rabbit out of a hat..... I wish we had a way of having a scholarship type fund to help you guys.. I am always thinking of some way to make this happen for Dawn. I read in one profile where a lady had an anonymous donation through someone at her church and it covered all her expenses to go to Spain and have surgery.. All I know is when it is your time to go things will all fall in to place. Keep searching you will find your way...
