I don't care what state they are in, they still deserve health care. Those that can afford their own insurance are very lucky, but they are not any more important than those that can't. We all deserve to be healthy.

Hard Hearted, no, frustrated with the abused welfare system, yes.  How about getting your own key to the future by earning it.  It's obvious we have an extreme difference of opinion and nothing I say will change your views and nothing you say will change mine.  Being called hard hearted though, not warranted or appreciated.

I'd also like to add that I have seen so many posts on the main board by people who have had the surgery and are now preparing to enter the workforce for the first time in years!  They are so excited to get back into life and participate in contributing a little more to the economy.  Would you rather have people on disability all their lives, or have them become productive members of society?  I'm sorry about the heard-hearted thing, but if you can't look at this through the disabled person's viewpoint, I'm afraid that's what I believe you to be. I just think alot is being read into this womans original question.  I do not see where she says she has family already living in Oregon or where it says she is disabled. There are many different types of people on Oregon Health Plan.  Disabled, Criminals, Poor, Working Poor,  Life Time Welfare, Illegals, etc.  One poster is "assuming" this person that plans to move here is diabled and one poster is "assuming" this person is a welfare case.   After these posts, this family may decide that the rumers about Oregon and the way the Oregon people treat ex-Californians may be true!   Even Conservative Me believes that sometimes people need help.  I am all for a helping hand, just not a hand out!

Linda you know nothing about me to make a judgement call.  I don't know if this women who is moving here works or not, if she is disabled or not.   If someone is disable, then by all means, use the resources available, if she is an elderly women who needs help, then by all means use the resources set up in our state.  But if you are between the ages of 18 and 64, able bodied, get out there and do your best to help support the system.  The system was put into place for short term assistance, not life long or generational, as we see so much here.  We are becoming a welfare state and eventually the dependents on the system will outweigh the people supplying the money to run it.  there has to be a happy medium.  If you are on OHP and you are working to support your family then you are paying taxes to support the system, i think that is wonderful.  What i cannot tolerate are the lifers.  The ones that from birth to death have been in the system. The people that have no ambition to earn their own way, the people that EXPECT to be taken care of.   This is the last I will post on this subject.  I have said my peace and if people don't agree, god bless them, isn't nice to live in a country where you can have an opinion and not be bashed for it.

That's my point exactly.  You know nothing about this woman's situation whatsoever, but you choose to pronounce judgment on her desire to take advantage of the system.  You can have your opinion and I have mine.  I really felt your post was uncalled for, to assume that someone was just out to get all they could.  I know too many people who feel that way.  One of them has now fallen on hard times and could use a little compassion.  I'm just saying -- think about it before you assume someone is out to work the system. what I said in my post, I didn't know this women or her situation, whether she was disabled or not, elderly or not.  I'm speaking in general terms.  I pass judgement on nobody, not my job.  You should really try doing the same.  You have a very strong position you are taking, and that is great, that is your right, but to personally attack somone for their views is obsene.  I did not personally attack you for yours.  Is every person who is a good steward of tax dollars, or where they are spent, are their views uncalled for because they may differ?  That may be something to think about.

"I have said my peace and if people don't agree, god bless them, isn't nice to live in a country where you can have an opinion and not be bashed for it." Oh, but you live in a country where freedom of speech runs both ways.  Those who disagree with you are indeed entitled to "bash" you (verbally) for it, just as you were entitled to bash the original poster. God Bless America, eh? Cheryl

Hi All, I have been watching this thread. I understand that people have different opinions about this issue. I look at it from another perspective as well. Before I had surgery I was quickly becoming sooo handicapped, I couldn't do much. I felt like I had lost so much hope, I couldn't physically do the things that so many people take for granted. I couldn't contribute much to anyone. Not my family, kids school, community, or state in much of any capacity. (In the past, before my weight became extreme, I worked the graveyard shifts, volunteered to do things for the school, church and community.) I was no longer able to function and contribute they way I wanted, the way I had in the past. Now that I have had this surgery, I have a whole new start on life. I am there for my family, the school, and my community with a renewed enthusiasm. Why would anyone begrude someone else the opportunity for such an transformation. Who knows what lives will be changed. Sometimes we don't look at the big picture, and all of the possibilities this surgery can encompass. Please open your heart to sharing this wonderful blessing to as many people as possible. Let's all get on the same side of the fence of this issue, and be a force to make it possible for people who need this surgery to be able to have the chance. Just because we don't understand someone's issues doesn't mean we should be on the defensive. I have not seen this woman post again in this thread, I hope we have not scared her off from the help an support she was seeking. This web-site can be a valuable tool for people who are seeking information. Those of us who are post-op and know the value of the wealth of information that transpires through this site should be careful we don't offend others who are out there looking for help.  My intention is to try to encourage others now that I have been blessed. I in no way intend to offend anyone, if I have I am sorry, I just think we need to be more careful with our words, we don't know who is looking at these posts. Thank You!!! Christina
