Nola, Thank you so much for letting me know what your weight lose plan is.  I will have to contact you more now that I know your md is Dr Jan.  I am a carb lover too, weight lose has always been hard.  I am grateful for this site and your comments. Kristy

Hi Kristy, I'm not a good person to give you diet advice, because I failed miserably on my pre-surgery diet. But I'd like to tell you that I sincerely regretted not trying harder, because my surgery ended up lasting 4 1/2 hours due to my liver being so huge that they had a hard time getting it out of the way. If I had followed the diet seriously, my liver would have shrunk, making the surgery shorter and less risky. So, the best gift you can give to yourself is to try your best to lose the weight. Good luck to you-I know you can do it!

I also have to lose weight before I can get a date. Originally I needed to lose 12, then some how I lost 5, but I think with the holidays and all the "stuff" sweets and carbs I have probably gained what I lost back. I am trying to get back on track too....Can't believe I got so derailed and sometimes after I eat too much I feel yuck. So my plan is to go to bed earlier so I can get up and start the day with exercise....maybe that will motivate me.

Also water, and trying to stay away from the carbs....

PS. Hey Michelle- maybe we will have dates close together, see you at support group on the 12th??

I see that you are having the same surgeon that I did. Loved Dr. P. Not sure if this will hel*****t, but I did have success with it.  I did what the dietician recommended.  I quit using my dinner plate, and began using a salad plate for meals.  I then paid careful attention to what I placed on that plate. And no seconds.  That was hard, but managed to do it most of the time. I did drink the water that was recommended, and I began an exercise program.  The only exercise that I did was walk.  I would walk nearly every day.  Funny thing was, I began to enjoy the walks.  Purchased an IPOD,and I was definitely on my way.  Best of luck to you with your weight loss journey.

Brandon, Thank you for your positive comments on Dr P and exercising.  I don't know much about the Dr yet so I may contact you.  I am trying to get back into walking daily, it is hard some days.  The idea of a smaller plate is smart.  I think I will have to use one of those small tea-cup type plates. haha.
