Home and newly banded

I had my lap band surgery on Wednesday, came home from Portland onThursday, and am learning/trying to get all my liquids and proteins in.  It is a struggle, but am working on it.  And the gas pains that I heard about are tremendous. Actually more painful than the incisions.  I am sure in time the gas will dissipate. Am sore, but pleased that  had the surgery.  Gained weight, can't quite figure that out.  Got home last night and had managed to gain 10 pounds from when they weighed me at the hospital.  Go figure.....

Hey Brandon!  Congratulations on your surgery.  Yes, you do gain weight because they pump you so full of  fluids with the IVs they stick in you.  They brought a scale into my room the morning after surgery and I think I was up 11 pounds.  Walk as much as you can and you'll get that gas out of there. Welcome home, Brandon!  The gas pains are pretty bad at times.  Walk, use a heating pad and flap your arms like a chicken (don't know why that works but it does).  Also, if you're allowed to, take Gas-X.  Dr. Jan allowed me to take it.  It helped a bit.  Well, at least it seemed to help psychologically. And what in blazes are you doing ON the scale right now, anyway?!?  Remember lap band is s l o w!  Scales for the first month or two (unless at the surgeon's -- or another doctor's -- office is a no-no).  Allow yourself a chance to heal.  You'll start to do a real number on yourself otherwise.  That's probably one of the biggest struggles around. Each day does get better -- it may get worse before it does but it does get better! Lori

Oh Lori, I know that this is a SLOW weight loss.  I was just curious....that is all. I know that my weight is not going to melt off of me, and that I have to be patient.  Thanks for the swift kick in the butt, sometimes I definitely need one of those.   I have been somehow sleeping on my side with a pillow pressed up against my tummy and that seems to help.  Thanks for the hint about the gas-x.

Yeah, well, consider yourself kicked, lol!  I know you know what you're doing (but, hey, someone else who is new might read your post and judge themselves and we don't want that). The side sleeping thing may be just what you need.  Honestly i wasn't about to suggest what worked for me because i think others have complained of being in too much pain -- I found that laying on my bed and gently rolling from side to side seemed to help work some of the gas through (especially if the gas were in my intestines).

Yep, chew chew chew those gas x's!!! I have had about 20 today! Call me if you need some! Got the heating pad on?? That helps a lot also!!!!

Don't worry about the weight I gained 13 in the hospital, or was that 10 since that is when I got my new scale! ;-)

Congrats!   The band is tough because it's a long way to ideal fill from surgery when you think short term.  But in the long run it all shakes out.  Try not to be too hard on yourself or impatient.  (I'll try to take my own advice--- my weight is moving slow.)   Be well! Melanie
