Update - One week post-op

Well, it has been a week since doc went in and cut up my innards. I feel great. I am doing the mantra...sip, sip, sip, walk, walk, walk, and healing up just fine. All the puncture wounds in my belly are healing very nicely. I have plenty of energy to get out and walk around. Haven't taken any pain meds since Tuesday evening. Don't even have much soreness in the stomach from getting up off the couch anymore. Basically, I have been blessed, lucky or whatever you want to call it and have had no problems and am doing great. I DID get the whole head hunger thing a couple times this week. I haven't been hungry by any means, but on Monday, the kids were home from school, my son cooked some spaghetti and meatballs for lunch. DAMN that smelled SOOOO good. Despite not being hungry, i wanted a bowl of that so bad. So, I grabbed a SF popsicle and just enjoyed the aroma. That happened again last night when my wife brought home chicken for dinner. That one was not as bad I think, just because I knew it wasn't too much longer and I could tear the skin off and join them for that one. I was on full liquid this last week. I get to have "creamy" foods this week. Creamed soups, or cream of wheat, that sort of stuff. So today is looking even brighter with a bunch of new tastes and options opening up for me. So, to make a long post even longer, I am basically doing very well, feel fantastic, spirits are up and want to thank everyone of you for all the support and help through this wonderful journey so far.

Glad to see that you're recovering nicely! Before long, you will get to tear into chicken meat, meatballs, and other protein. Keep up the excellent work!

Good for you!  That week of full liquids can be a *****allenging.  My first real food was refried beans and cheese and I thought I had died and gone to heaven.  It is lots harder when you have others around you eating stuff.  I live with two cats and am never tempted by their food!    I'm glad to hear you're feeling good and have lots of energy.  That's great. WOW sounds like you are really doing good. Happy to hear the pain subsided pretty fast I bet that makes life much better you must have a high pain threshold. Glad to hear you are sticking to the Dr.'s orders and following the post op meal plan. I heard at one of my meetings that those that follow the meal plan properly don't have as many problems with dumping in the long run? Wishing you well and a speedy recovery.

Congrats on your surgery!!  We share the same surgeon.  I'm nearly 3 years out from surgery and on to phase 2.....Plastics!! One thing that helped me take smaller bites was using a coctail fork.  They are like a little baby fork only obviously made for adults. I hope to see you at support group in December.  It will be the only time I'll be able to go as I work all Saturdays.  I'll be on surgery leave from round 2 of the PS. Trisha

I'm so glad to hear how well you're doing :)  You have such a great attitude!   I remember the first thing I ate after my liquids week was over was scrambled eggs!  YUM!  I was craving it.  I guess eggs are not on the "creamy" foods list? That probably constitutes a "soft" food... oh well :) different surgeons have different rules...  Cream of Wheat sounds delicious, doesn't it? :)
