I did my sleep study and boy was that fun. NOT!! Do any of you know how much you need to sleep to have the results valid?? I am worried I will have to redo it. I was speaking to a friend who had a similar siduation as me and they made her redo the test... (I wrote all about it in my profile)

Well, according to the person I was trying to get to do my replacement CPAP mask its 120 minutes or more of uninterrupted sleep.  Although you may have felt like you didn't sleep, it may actually be that you had apnea episodes that woke you up or kept you awake. Only time will tell what the results say.  I talked to my technician after I finished my study so I knew how poorly I did. Lori

I haven't had my sleep study yet, but I was advised by the NP during my sleep study consult that a minimum of 6 hours' sleep would be acceptable.  The same NP also wrote a prescription for Ambien to be taken at my sleep study in case I don't fall asleep within an hour of getting into bed.  I don't sleep too well laying on my back anyway. My sleep study will be held in a Marriott Residence Inn.  I will be having the hotel room to myself while the techs monitor me from the next room.  The techs will have to wake me up at 6 AM so that they can go home and sleep themselves.  I hope to eat the free breakfast at the inn.

I didn't get much sleep the first night I was there.  They did finally give me something to help me sleep.  If they find you have sleep apnea, you will have to go back to have another test with a CPAP so they can determine your setting.  I agree -- it's not fun! Linda

Lol!  I was so bad they gave me a machine right then and there so I never had to go back a second time!

I did not sleep well when I had my sleep study, but they released me to go home about 7am, they gave me my CPAP the same day so I did not have to come back. The only thing I really hated about it was having to clean all the goo out of my hair cause of all the wires that I was hooked up to Peggy

Oh, I hated the sleep study. I did take Ambien to help me sleep, but I still woke up with the machine.   I was diagnosed with sleep apnea, and told to use the dreaded machine.....I still haven't adjusted to it...and don't want to.

I am asking my Dr. if I HAVE TO USE IT....to me it is a complete waste of my energy.  I have not noticed any difference.

I fear that I will not be allowed to follow thru with my surgery if I don't use it.....but I sleep worse with it than without it.

Bran,  do you have a face mask or the nasal pillows?  I do not use mine now but did until about 5 months ago.  I used the mask at first but did research and switched to the nasal pillow with a better head gear.  You know you can die from problems associated with sleep apnea and I am sure that without it for the last 10 + years, I would not have lived to have WLS.  You can have strokes, heart attacks, kidney disease, high blood pressure plus car accidents or industrial accidents depending on where you work.  It may be doing more for you than you think it is.  Julia

I am sure there are many positives to the CPAP contraption....I just can't sleep with the darn thing.  I have noticed that I am not as tired, but I attribute that to my daily walking. I used to have to take a nap in the afternoon. And NO it isn't because of the the machine that they have gone away.

I am talking to the people in Portland on Wed....I just want to forego the entire experience.  But am sure they will have something totally different to say.

My brother was also diagnosed with apnea, and he has a machine also.  He told me he loves it...he can definitely tell the difference when he uses and doesn't use his machine.  I just don't think I am that bad off....

But many thanks for your input.  And you are so close to your goal.....soon, right?

Bran,  Yes I am close to goal---6 to 9 pounds.  I think 9 as that puts me at a normal BMI.  It is slow going now though. I got very use to my C-PAP and had a hard time letting it go.  It is still by my bedside.  I do snore some still but just don't stop breathing.  The very first night I had mine was wonderful because I only got up to the bathroom 1 time and had been getting up 6 to 7 times.  I had major gastric reflux also which stopped and of course not tired any more.  I have taken that sucker on trips we took on our motor cycle, otherwise might have gone to sleep and fallen off the bike---(my husband drives--I ride)  !!   You must be getting excited about your surgery coming up.  Hang in there, it will be here before you know it.   Julia
