Kim,  I am not sure I understand the difference in the RNY and what you had originally.  I know there is a difference but not sure what.  I originally thought that the "mini" bypass was less involved that the RNY but with your problems, I am not so sure.  Julia

The mini has one less connection than an RNY as the intestine is not cut, but just attached on the side to the base of the new stomach sleeve.  The pouch is also configured differently. I could have had the exact same problems with an RNY if it was done distally.  It just happened to be too much of a bypass for me.  I think if I had only had a 3 foot bypass originally, I would have been fine.

Kim----so if you have a revision to an RNY, would they just hook up more of you intestines and maybe change the pouch?  Julia

Yes, he would reduce my stomach by about 1/2 the size it is currently, and take my currently bypassed intestine up part way and cut it and hook it into the new, smaller pouch like they do with the RNY. He would leave the existing connection from the MGB where it is.  He said the things I would notice most is that I would be able to eat a LOT less, and that my diarrhea would stop.  I'm kind of worried about about eating less...but if I'm absorbing, I guess that would be ok.  I need to gain about 30 lbs.

Kim, So glad that someone is making some progress for you.  I hope that this trend continues.  Be sure and be strong with the Dr. but  I also think that at this point you may have to do something you are not completely comfortable with just to save your own life.  This is such a terrible situation you are in and I am so sorry to hear about it.  I am so glad though that things seem to be looking up! Keep us posted. Tara

Tara, I've been thinking about just the thing you said.  I may have to end up doing something I am not totally comfortable with just to save my life. I have been on both sides of the fence with this question of what's so bad if I end up with an RNY and why is it so imporatant that I don't want it?  I really have to trust God is putting me on the path that is best for me and I will have to trust whatever outcome I get.  At this point, I AM running out of time.   Thanks for the encouragement!

Kim, I am glad you are really thinking about your options.  I wasn't going to put God in the picture here but since you mentioned it, I am a firm believer that He is in control of our lives and that He has a purpose for everything. I sure hope that you are (and I am certain you are) doing research about your options and I think you should go in knowing what you want but you have to be prepared in case for whatever reason that is not an option. I will keep you in my prayers and hope that things continue to go well. Tara
