I need a PCP!! ARGH
As you all probably are aware, I am switching to UHC in January and I am having a heck of a time finding a PCP. Maybe it's a dumb question but do they need to be affiliated with OHSU since that is where i want to have my surgery or does it matter?? I live in Tigard so if you are local and have any ideas or have a good PCP let me know! Thanks so much!!
Angela
I have been a patient for OHSU for about 35 years--far longer than I have been a patient of the OHSU bariatric program. It is a lot easier to have all my medical records in one place than in so many different places. My medical and surgical history can be viewed easily by clinics and hospitals within OHSU. The fact that my medical records are with OHSU makes it far easier for the bariatric clinic to review info from my WLS application.
I don't think that it makes any difference on whether you have your surgery in the same place as your prospective PCP. However, if you want all your medical records in one place that can be interfaced among clinics, then choose OHSU. I cannot recommend a specific name for a prospective PCP, but you may call the Internal Medicine Clinic at 503-494-8562 to make an appointment with one.
Since you live in Tigard, OHSU has a satellite clinic on SW 45th Ave and SW Vermont St near Gabriel Park if you would rather go there than either the main campus or at the waterfront. Either way, your medical records there can be interfaced to the bariatric clinic. The phone number is 503-494-9992.
Hope this helps!

DS (lap) with Dr. Clifford Deveney. Cholecystectomy (lap) with Dr. Clifford Deveney 19 months post-op.
Has not weighed myself since 1/2010. Letting my clothes gauge my progress instead.
You need to go see Kara Kassay-she is an awesome PCP. She is a UHC preferred provider and just left the portland clinic for her own office in Lake Oswego (not too far away from you). She is very open to weight loss surgery and helped me a lot with how to get started. I am also going to OHSU and they seem to work (fingers crossed it stays this way) with UHC just fine. I have my psych eval next week (the last test required) and so far there have been no bills :) and only a few co pays.
Good luck!
