Well here it is 7 days post op and we returned to our home today from the Portland area. So good to be home. The trip was tiring but by tonight I am getting back some energy. Way off track with protein today, so know I have to be prepared if we travel. Stopped in The Dalles and while my husband wolfed down a big breakfast I had a cup of chicken vegetable soup and ate the broth. The waitress was very nice but I think she thought I was pretty weird. Amazing how those few spoons of broth got me through just fine. Felt like I had wolfed down a big breakfast myself. Jeanne

Jeanne: How are you doing today? May I ask where you had your surgery? I am scheduled for RNY 01/22 at Legacy Good-Sam with Dr. Patterson. With all the info on the forum about travel advice after surgery, I'm staying in Ptl for several days after surgery to be sure everything's OK. Sounds like you stayed extra days too. How was travelling by car? Any information you feel like sharing will be appreciated. Good for you making the huge decision to change your life! By next year you'll be fit and gorgeous. Devonne

Devonne: I had the RNY with Dr. Patterson at Legacy Good-Sam. I cannot say enough about the good care of the Drs and the nursing staff *****ally look after you. I had my surgery on Wednesday at 10:30 and was in my room by about 4-5 that evening. I am not really clear on that as it was the next day before I was clear headed. I took longer as they discovered two hiatel hernias, that I had no idea I had. We live about 3 1/2 hours from Portland and since we were able to stay in the Portland area I really didn't want to make the trip home right away with the winter roads. The trip home was really tiring and we stopped at the half way point, The Dalles, and I was able to walk around a bit. Last night was finally being back in my own bed and really a good nights sleep. I can honestly say today is the best day so far but I still cannot do much. Almost got my protein and water in today also, and that has been difficult for me. I think your idea to stay is good just so that you are a little further down the road before you start home. I know some probably walked out of the hospital and travelled home but I know that would have been the wrong choice for me. Jeanne

I am glad you are doing better. From what I understand it will be a while before you're really feeling like doing cartwheels. Seems like the recovery will be a series of little steps. I'm glad you liked the surgeon and hospital, since I'll be there too on 01/22. How long was your hospital stay? When you go back for your check ups and have to stay over consider the Green Gables Guest House run by the hospital. It's only $25 a night for 2, if you don't mind sharing a bathroom. The facility is spotless - an old Craftsman style house that's lovely. Thank you so much for sharing all your experiences. As the time nears I know I'll be nervous so it's good to know what to expect. I hope you continue healing and the coming New Year be the best ever for you and yours. Blessings, DeVonne
