Hello: I am just starting the paper work and hope to have the gastric bypass surgery sometime this year. I would appreciate knowing how long it took some of you to recover and go back to work. I do not really have a physically demanding job, mostly desk work and some stairs. My age might make a difference as I am 68. Any information I can gather will help me with my research.

I felt normal again at 3 weeks out, but didn't go back to wor****il 4 weeks. I'm 44, and age might be a factor in recovery. My company pays medical leave at 100% of my pay for up to 12 weeks so that was a deciding factor to me as to how much time I could take. My Doctor also recomended 4 weeks off. Ask your Doctor as to how much time he/she thinks you should be off. Good Luck Darla

Hi Jeanne, Congratulations on making the decision to move towards WLS. I had RNY on 4/18/06 in Brazil. I stayed down there for 12 days after the surgery. I returned to work when I returned to the US. I am 44. I actually felt really great for the first month. As I've transitioned to eating and increasing my exercise, I find myself really tired at the end of the day. I am having some bloodwork next week to see if I need to change my supplements. Good luck with your journey! Betsy
