Question about surgery/complications.
Can anyone tell me if you have had bypass surgery-what, if any, complications you have from the surgery and if you would still have done the surgery if you had the chance to do it again. I am suppose to have my meeting with the surgeron in the next few weeks and wonder if anyone has any questions I should ask to make sure I am prepared for the appt. I am excited but am a little nervous also. I guess I will wait to have that appointment and see what my insurance says. Thanks for all your help.
I had lap banding instead of bypass. The reasons are because I didn't want my digestive function compromised in any way. I did not want to have to take a bunch of supplements. I did not want to suffer "dumping" because all that bad food that's not absorbed has to go somewhere & that means out the back door. Eeeewwww. At my age of 61, this was not something I wanted to deal with. I also know several people who, after 2 years, begin absorbing the bad stuff so a strict diet must be followed forever. Those little things that quit absorbing following surgery do grow back after 2 years.
If you have no choice for either lab band or bypass due to insurance coverage...good luck, but it is a huge lifestyle change.
I am 8 weeks out with no complications and no regrets. However, it is a huge lifestyle change. I am not hungry, but I have to plan to get the protein I need. It is a big transition to go from liquids to eating again. I still struggle with chewing enough and knowing when to stop.
I had the RNY with a ring in Brazil. This is a procedure that keeps the new stomach and opening from stretching. It also causes vomiting if I eat too much. It's a learning process, for sure.
I have lost over 45 pounds so far. I want to lose another 40.
Good luck with your decision!
