Topic: 4 year appt was cancelled due to Understaffing at Humber... Nope... Not today

I had surgery in 2017 so I qualify for annual checkups/calls for 5 years. I took off work last week in preparation for my 4 year call. They called me one day before and left a message as I couldn't get to the phone and told me in so many words that they are only funded for two yaers and they are understaffed. As a result they cancelled my appointment. They encouraged me to book an appointment with my family doctor and if that wasn't possible they could book me in but not until January or February. ARGH!

Ummm... I KNOW I have funding for 5 years. I also know that funding changed to 2 years 2 years ago and that I'm still under the program. I also know that it's extremely problematic for these types of cancellation calls going out a day before my appointment. Finally, for them to advise for this to let this land with my general practitioner is soooo annoying. But hey we can book you in for January or February is so annoying. If I knew then what I know now, I would never have gotten RNY. Period. Yes. My fault. Open mouth, insert food + REGAIN. This is not what I was expecting! ARGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Sooooo annoyed right now.

So I called back and left a message. Because they NEVER answer. I told them I was disappointed about the cancellation, especially when I took off work in anticipation of the call. I also told them I'm entitiled to my 4 and 5 year check ins and that I'm looking forward to hearing back from them with my new appointment date. Oh hell no. Not today.

Thanks and have a great day.

Definitely disheartening. We have so much collective knowledge, experience, weight loss, REGAIN (well me anyway) and Love and advice that we have to keep it going. Post away, folks!

Good Luck! It's a journey (I'm one year PO) but 110% worth it.

Topic: RE: Barrie group

Unfortunately the group isn't running anymore. There were some coffee groups in Barrie, Innisfil and Orillia but COVID kinda put a wrench in those. If you want to friend me on Facebook, I can add you to a closed Barrie group. They have a convention/large get together in Barrie twice a year and hoping to start up again for Spring 2022. Janet Patterson runs it.

Message me anytime. I'm a 10 year vet and can share my experience ?.

Hey there,

Does this group still exist? I am having trouble finding live support - Surgery expected in the new year.

Thanks!

I agree. When researching information before approaching my family doctor for a referral, I came here and read through all the forums but it seemed to be pretty dead. I'm not on FB but there is a huge support network on Instagram and YouTube. It's unfortunate though, I think the forums would be very beneficial. I'm still pre-op (I meet my surgeon this week!) and it would be helpful to have this as a resource as well.

Yes, it is sad. I never use the Facebook ones. I lurk here more than post so I guess I'm part of the problem. I got discouraged when my weight loss stopped. I got it started again with the help of Dr Glazer from Humber. I also think People are just hiding out waiting for life to return to a semblance of ordinary.

Referred January 7/17, Orientation Humber May 28/17, Meet Dr. August 4/17, TRIO November 3/17, Internist November 21/17, Surgeon again December 21/17, Pre-op assessment January 4/18 and Surgery January 12/18.

This forum used to be really active. 2011 wen I had my RNY I was so thankful for this forum. I met my best friend who was a year out from me. Could not have done this without her. While I realize we most deal with FB groups. It is sad to see this forum falter. Don't give up on the option to reach out to others. 10 years out and don't regret a thing.
