1500 of calcium citrate is a typical recommended amount post op.
split into 3 doses for absorption.

it is not unusual to have osteoporosis at this age. You can talk to your doctor about bone builders

Ask for a referral to a specialist. You may need infusions. I take 1000 of calcium citrate a day. Are you taking the right kind of calcium? It is hard to swallow the huge pills for me but I do the best I can.

I'm 24 years out from my VBGB and continue to click on articles of interest from the occasional email I receive from this site.

I agree with what you posted but would like to pipe in with my opinion on posting.

I believe that many morbidly obese people are quite used to keeping to themselves, not reaching out, have poor social skills, etc.

Due to this reality of being people-shy, we are often reluctant to get our feet wet and jump into being social butterflies - even on a site such as this one.

I, for one, felt like I was never taken seriously because the world was used to seeing "happy, bubbly, fat Sue.

It took me a long time before I ever even replied to a post!

It's really too bad that a life-saving site like this has to die out, but the 'new-age' demands moving forward; fast, fast, fast! - however this total life changing process of losing hundreds of pounds takes so much longer in our heads than it does for our bodies.

The surgery is covered by OHIP. The costs for you would be travel to the hospital for appointments. Post surgery it is absolutely essential you take vitamins daily. I do not know which hospitals in the north do this surgery but if you can find out the site may have information for you. They usually have an initial information meeting.

Good Luck

I am starting to have issues with bone thinning. I am 70 yrs old and 10 yrs out from surgery. It have been told to take 1500 mg of calcium a day. I am not sure our bodies can even absorb that much.

Is anyone else out there dealing with this?

Funny you should post this. I have not been on here for years. I became disillusioned with some negativity here. However I came across this post plus another that are helping me with a current issue. I am happy to see a few people still here. Perhaps I will drop in more often.

Hi,

Previously my OHIP application was declined. I have an appointment with my family doctor to discuss getting another referral sent to a plastic surgeon. So my question is, what can I make to include that will help my application go through AND which surgeons are the best that work with OHIP? TIA ?

I live in Toronto. Not very familiar in Oshawa. If you like, I can refer you some in Toronto.
