Any denials at physc evaluation??
I believe that some people have "failed" the psych evaluation but those who did had quite severe issues.
I know that some others have had issues identified and then they have been referred to therapists to work on those issues. Of those people, surgery may be delayed until such time as the team sees that things are good, and feel that the patients are capable of going through such a large and life changing surgery.
I have a history of anxiety and depression but have worked hard over the years to deal with it. I was upfront about it and we talked about it. I have ways and means of dealing with it and there was no issue moving forward.
Why are you nervous? If you would prefer to PM me, please do.

- Thanks for your reply. I too have a history of anxiety and depression. I feel like I have a handle on it at this stage in my life. I've had no therapy and am no longer taking medication. I scared of being denied due to not having any therapy. I'm so ready for this change and am willing to do what it takes to make it happen. Maybe I should consider therapy on my own.
I wouldn't be terribly concerned. They may want you to see someone and that's not a bad thing.
You really need to be prepared for the changes that are going to happen and have a plan if you need one.
My guess is that some very pointed questions will be asked and you will need to be honest. If they want you to see someone and work out a few things, it's way better to do it now, than to try dealing with it after surgery.
I don't think you need to be overly concerned about being denied.

I also have depression and anxiety (seems to be quite common) and I am on medication for it. I have been to therapy but not anything long term and not for many years. That being said, it did help me with some coping mechanisms.
Anyhoo, during both my social worker and psych appointments we talked about it, I was open and honest about everything, they told me some things to look out for post op that could indicate I needed to see someone but I was passed and did not need to go see someone before they gave me the ok.
Be honest with yourself - if you feel that you would benefit from some therapy regardless, then go. If you feel that you are in control at the moment then see how it goes. Just remember to be totally upfront with the team members - they all want to ensure you succeed!
