Question for TWH folks...

Hey guys,

So I now have my surgeon's appt booked and things are getting exciting! I do have a quick question - I haven't yet had an ultrasound performed to take a look at the abdomen. At what point does this happen? I'm trying to figure out how they determine how long the opti stage would be for me, if they haven't seen the status of my liver.

I haven't had to see an internist, I'm fairly certain I have bypassed that step, but I'm a little confused.

Would really appreciate if anyone could shed some light on their experiences with the same.

Thanks!

I didn't have an ultrasound. The length of your liquid diet is related to weight. I started at 280 and had two weeks of opti. They pretty know from experience that our livers are enlarged when we are overweight.

An ultrasound was never discussed.

Over 100 lbs lost! and 13 lbs below goal weight!

Thanks. I spoke with the Nurse and she told me if any test is required, the Surgeon will order that at the time of your appt. Makes sense!

Hey shiney...its confusing for sure as all the different programs have different people to see/tests to take.

TWH does not require you to see an internist as part of the usual process. Presumably, if there was a particular issue then they might add that step, but for TWH it is not part of the "boilerplate".

Same goes for an abdominal ultrasound.

As for Opti, the general rule is 1 week for every 100lbs. So if you are 100-200lbs, you do 1 week, if you are 200-300lbs, you do 2 weeks, if you are 300-400lbs, you do 3 weeks etc.

I was 299.9 when weighed at my surgeons appointment and I got 2 weeks.

You are almost at the end of the process!! Soon you will be joining us on the loser's bench! Woohoo!
