Hey everyone!

I've been wondering about spicy food post surgery. I LOVE spicy food like I want to cry every meal from spice and I have the highest spice tolerance of anyone I know. Any other spice heads here that had to change that after surgery? I really hope I don't lose my spicy food lol.

I still love spicy food and enjoy it often. I would say that in the first year post-op you should tone down the spice level considerably, and then advance slowly. You want to give yourself time to heal completely. It takes a long time for any stomach surgery to heal. This is why they say no nuts or seeds for quite a while because they can get caught in the staple line. In the beginning it is always best to treat your new pouch or sleeve like a baby's stomach and you wouldn't give a baby hot sauce.

The other thing is that it is surprising how tastes change after surgery. I was all about anything with tomatoes especially in sauce. Now I like salsa and a slice of fresh tomato but it is surprising how much this is more seldom than it used to be. I just don't crave it like I used to.

Eat spicy but not to the degree you do. LOL I waited until about 5 months out before I started introducing "heat" back into my diet. No issues.

One of my first pureed meals was butter chicken. Homemade. Lots of flavour!! I was craving spices and flavour. I also eat spicy food, but it sounds like less spicy than you. Good luck!
