How are followups spaced out post surgery?

How often are follow up appointments post surgery. In the orientation we were told that we have to commit to 10 years of follow up. I am assuming that towards the later years, it may just be once year, but how are appointments scheduled in the beginning? Is it monthly appointments in the first year?

So far it has been as follows:

  • 2 weeks after surgery
  • 1 month after surgery
  • 3 months after surgery
  • 6 months after surgery
  • 1 year after surgery

I'm also assuming that it will be yearly once I hit the 1 year mark.

Seems to depend on the Clinic somewhat? I was at TWH

Post surgery follow up in hospital was with the resident, never say the surgeon after recovery.

1 month follow up saw the NP (Nurse Practitioner) and had a group class with the dietician

3 month follow up NP only

6 month follow up NP, Social Worker, Dietician (all separate appointments on different days, so doing by telehealth)

I've been told I will need to make an appointment for my 1 year follow up myself? they gave me forms for bloodwork at 3 month, 6 month, 1 year, year 2-5 at my 1 month appointment.

I'm through Hamilton and was told at orientation that we will only be able to follow up with the clinic for up to one year after surgery. After that we need to transfer back to our GPs for follow up. This was for people referred into the program as of June of last year. Not sure if that's now the case with all Ontario Bariatric Network Centres or just mine. It used to be 5 years of follow up.
