I start optifast in 1 week. 3 weeks of optifast seems daunting and I am feeling like I am saying goodbye to food this week. I am fighting the cravings from menopause, hot flashes in the middle of a smokey summer is not ideal, but I guess there is always something lol.

Congrats!

I'm nearing the end of week 3 on OptiFast. I have one more week to go (surgery is August 27th). I had four days to say good-bye to food, as you say. I won't lie to you, but it has been rough. There are a lot of cravings, but trying to keep my eye on the prize. Popcorn was a bad craving for me, and my husband made a big bowl of it last weekend. I sat and cried. However, getting through that showed me I could do it and this week has been easier. Broth is still the highlight of my day though.

I know that feeling, Jelsey. A couple of weeks ago I had an emotionally rough day, and had to do some grocery shopping in the evening. In the store it suddenly struck me that I wouldn't be treating myself to junk food, no matter how crummy I felt. I got so upset! For a minute I thought I was going to start crying right there in Loblaws, like a little kid who wants candy and whose mom keeps saying NO.
Anyways, you must be getting excited with your surgery date just around the corner! You're doing great. Keep us posted!

You're not alone. I think many of us go through that feeling of having to say goodbye to food. I know I did!

The first few days can be tough, but your body will adjust and it gets easier. When I struggled I found it helpful to focus on the fact I was shrinking my liver to facilitate a complication-free surgery. Losing weight during this period can be a great motivator, too.
