BMI - good and bad
Hi all,
The scale was really good to me this morning - I am down 121 lbs. Wow!
So I got curious about my BMI. Starting BMI: 56.3. Current BMI: 34.2. Wow again!
Here's the "scary" part. I am still categorically obese. In fact, I won't get to "overweight" until I lose 24 more lbs. And I need to lose 51 lbs to be considered "normal". That's 172 lbs!!!
I am 33 lbs away from losing half my weight. It seems so far away, but a great goal to strive for. I can't even imagine what I'll look like then.
Anyway, BMI is a funny thing. I like it as a reference point and to help me set goals.

Congratulations on your success! You have done amazing.
I too am watching that BMI number. I am technically overweight now. 20 lbs more and I will be at the top end of normal. That's my goal.

Congratulations, you are doing so well.
Try not to focus too much on BMI, its wonky. I bounce back and forth on the high end of 'normal' to the low end of 'overweight' (ah, the difference a pound or two can make). Many weight loss professionals (diet industry) would feel this is too high of a weight, but I think it works on me.

Huge congrats to you.
The BMI chart can be deceiving. It's mostly pretty accurate, but it doesn't take into account people's innate body shape, nor your age (ugh is all I can say). While it's accurate for many I including myself, it might be a tad skewed for others. There is also extra skin (not nearly as heavy as people claim, but still). Best advice - just keep going. I lost well into my 3rd year post-op. There's not a time limit- but make the best of your awesome losing years.

Thanks!! I'm so thrilled to learn you lost well into your third year. I'm just coming up on a year, and not where I want to end. I hear so many people say how hard it is to lose after the first year that I'm thrilled the loss can continue!!!
I agree re BMI and I'm not focused on it. I think it's just another measure to take into account, and honestly I'm tickled pink with the change in BMI!!!
Thanks again. :)
