Tell me about the patterns / flow of your weight loss

So i know it's obviously very different for everyone, but I am curious about how your initial weight loss looked, if that makes sense :)

I see that when folks post their month by month progress, the largest drop seems always to be Month 1.. with an average, as far as I can tell, of 23lbs lost that first month.

For those of you that doing post their monthly progress in your signatures; was that about average for you too?

Looks like it slows down significantly in Months 2 and 3, and sometimes picks up a little again.

No real reason for me asking other than curiosity, I know we all go at our own paces, but I enjoy this kind of info :)

TBH I never count on a monthly basis. All I care about is seeing the # on the scale diminishing.

I stalled early at about 3 weeks which I hear is quite common. I also came home from the hospital 7 lbs heavier than when I went in. I nearly had a stroke over that. LOL

I think I've been very lucky in that, with the exception of the week 3 stall, I have continuously lost with no other stalls since. It's been 1/4 lb here, 1/2 lb there, a full lb every now and then and then there were a couple of days where I dropped 2 lbs.

It appears there's no rhyme or reason to it at all.

I just got home from a support group meeting at St. Joe's and the common thread was that everybody loses differently.

I think weight loss is slowing for me now in month 3 but I also know that as time goes on I can eat more variety, so it can be easier to eat more than I should, but I also know as long as the weight is going down not up I'm in a good place.

My first month post op was horrible. I only lost 6 pounds in the first 4 weeks post op. I cried and cried. Lol true story.

But then my body decided to relax and let go. I have lost 110 pounds since Opti. It's just started melting away at 3 to 4 pounds a week after month 1.

I agree... weight loss is different for everyone, and comparison will depress you to no end!!!

That being said, pre-op, and even now, I am always looking at people's weight loss trends. I am fascinated by them. Inspired by them. And use them as a benchmark for my losses. Not a measure of my success, but certainly a benchmark. That's why I post mine: for others who think like me in case it may help.

I've had stalls and weeks where I'm up. Overall I've been fortunate to show losses every month. It's slowing down this month! It's still great though. I feel SO SO blessed. :)

Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. Choose happy.

If you go to the OH Post-Op Planner and enter your stats, it will give you an average loss month-by-month. It was pretty accurate for mine.

I'm only almost 8 weeks out and have had a steady loss since surgery. My second month has still been decent weight loss.I know I won't be without stalls so I'll try to accept it as part of the journey when it happens. Regardless of the first few months patterns eventually it will all even out if you are follow the plan:)

Loss rate varies for everyone, but this nifty trend chart helps me to see that I continue to lose slowly, but steadily. I don't weigh regularly, so it's a bit irregular. I show this to my nutritionist when I see her and she loves it.

Thanks for posting this. I was feeling a bit discouraged until I read this post. My weight loss has dropped a lot over the last few weeks. I am almost done month 2 and I have only lost 9 lbs in month 2 so far. I have been following the plan, kept my carbs low and increased my activity level now that I am allowed to do more. I am hopeful for a change next month. 2 lbs a week this early out doesn't seem right so I am hoping my body will quit fighting and just give in for a bit.
