Hello Airy:

Good luck on your surgery

I had my bypass on April 23 and was discharged on the 24th. I was able to get up and walk around a few hours after the surgery albeit a little slow. :)

Next day was much better, to the point that I walked the whole hospital floor as well as going down to the pharmacy to get my meds.

When I got home I was a little tired but nothing major. On the recommendation of the nurse and dietitian at Humber River I purchased the book "Complete Weight-Loss Surgery Guide & Diet Program". It's an awesome book and it goes through the various food stages post-op giving you sample meal plans for each stage of recovery which ensure you have the complete amount of daily protein requirements. It also has really good recipes. I planned in advance and made my soups and froze them.

I'm also using the lose it app for logging my food to show the nurse when I have my first follow up.

All the best.

Carla

Thanks, MarCar. I do have that book I believe; it's given to us as part of our programme. You're right, there are some good recipes that I'm all prepped to try at the appropriate stage.

I am curious about the Lose It app. I tried it, and got frustrated that I could not set Macro goals without a subscription (same as My Fitness Pal). Do you have a subscription? Or do you just track your macros by adding it up mentally when looking at your log?

There is a tracker created by a former bodybuilder (App name escapes me) that I want to try, but I don't know that the food database is as extensive, particularly with Canadian brands.

I really like Lose it and no I do not have a subscription, but I did a year ago and it is quite good.

I know what you mean about the Macro goals however, for me right now it's about the protein/fat daily count and you have this with the free version. I may go to the premium version but I'm not 100% convinced I'll need it. If you wait for their 35% off it's not so bad and it turns out to be about $39USD for the year.

Lose it has a lot of Canadian brands. I'm more than happy to help you if you decide to use it. It was challenging for me at first as well but now I'm used to it. :)

Good luck tomorrow, will be thinking of you. Where are you having your surgery?

Thanks everyone for all the replies. My sweet Mom not only went out and found me some chicken marrow broth, but got a big old soupbone and has roasted it and has been simmering it all day to make me some home made bone broth. *sigh** Moms are the best :)

Meanwhile, hubby ordered me a plethora of Premiere Protein flavours from the US that should keep me from getting bored too, yay.

I am currently staring at my little hospital bag on the bed, and trying to keep busy to avoid the jitters. 8:30 tomorrow is hospital time, 10:30 am is surgery. I think I'll choose an outfit that I can re-use for all pics, and get Dear Husband to take some 'before' pics of me. I wish I was a tv-watcher so I could distract myself here!

It's normal to be nervous after all they will be re-arranging your plumbing. :)

You'll do fine.

Good luck.
