Let's talk menastration......
I have to say I did a ton of research before having RNY and the one thing I didn't realize was the change in menastration that would happen. It wasn't listed as a possible side effect that I found anywhere. I'm 48 years old and am on my 2nd Mirena IUD. I had gotten used to having light periods every month that only lasted a few day. Now I am having VERY heavy periods very close together. It makes sense with all that our bodies are going through but I must say it wasn't something that I was expecting. I didn't think at my point in life I was going to have to go back to purchasing pads and tampons :) Just thought I would put this out there for anyone else starting the process as an FYI.
No regrets, loving my tool, feeling better and lighter then I have in years!

Estrogen is stored in fat. When we lose a lot of weight, we get a hormone dump. One of the reasons we can get weepy, and all of the other emotions attributed to hormones.

Do we lose enough weight to stop producing estrogen? I hope not, I want to keep producing it (I'm post menopausal by 10 years) as I don't want hot flashes, mood swings etc.
Interesting I'm on my 2nd IUD and it's time to have it removed I'm older (56) but the IUD was the last ditch thing before a hysterectomy 10 years ago, couldn't go back there. So I guess if I'm not having any issues maybe I'm finally out the other side so wouldn't have issues if I had it removed.

I found your post so interesting because my first cycle post surgery I experienced umm...a major wardrobe malfunction shall we say. That hasn't happened in 25 years!! Then I began getting signs recently that my period was going to start but 9 days early...it still hasn't started full force but I hate wearing pads wondering when it will appear!! Kinda glad I'm not the only one experiencing this!
I found your reply funny, I had the same thing happen. I definitely won't be running out to buy white pants anytime soon until this passes!

I wouldn't have said I've been affected, but if I think about it, I had one bout of major PMS in January (and i am not a girl who gets PMS) and in Feb, my period came 2 weeks early and really heavy. Other than those 2 things, I've been pretty stable these past 8 months.

If you are having AUB (abnormal uterine bleeding), I would ask your OB/GYN to do an endometrial ablation. This is where they cauterize the uterine lining, which lessens or even stops menstruation. I had one in 2002, didn't have menses for over a decade and now I get very light ones. I still have a Mirena and it has given me no issues.
Something to think about if your menses are so heavy and irregular.
