Blood test - Before Surgery Vitamin D deficiency

I am just going through my blood test results online and everything is good except my Vitamin D. I am still waiting for information from my bariatric clinic, but what are the chances of me getting denied because of this??? Anyone have to deal with it? Clearly I had no idea and I will start taking vitamin supplements now but just curious if anyone had the same thing happen before surgery.

Thanks!

Don't worry too much Vitamin D deficiencies are common in the winter time due to lack of sunlight, I've always taken a D supplement in the winter when I hibernate more, it's one of the easier ones to bring up.

I have to take a vitaminD supplement all year, funny because I love the sun. But just can't absorb enough apparently. Nothing to worry about at all you'll just add it to your post surgery vitamin regimen as well. Costco has the best deal around on vitamin D

Oh and because you are Canadian mosT of us are deficient. We are generally too far from the equator to receiver the full benefits from the sun. That's part of why ohip typically charges for vitamin d tests - because it is assumed we all are deficient.

My blood tests came back that I was vitamin D deficient and I was just told to start taking vitamins. It didn't effect my surgery at all.

My naturopath had me on 15 000 units a day x3 months and it went from 48 to 103 in the winter. I'm now down to 3000u daily to maintain - but she did say no longer than 3 months at that amount of 15 000

They won't deny you. Mine is low, and was told to start taking 6000- 10,000 units of D3 per day, and to have my levels re-tested after a few months.

Thanks for the responses! I have started taking about 3000-4000IU per day, and will continue that for a few months to bring it up a bit and then go down to the average of 1000-2000ish. I also started taking a multi vitamin which contains a bit too, therefore I should be okay for the next time they check me! Hopefully anyway!
