I have been lurking on this website for ages but I thought I would introduce myself- I am Ally and I am having a band removal (bad failure) and RNY on April 10th. I have been waiting so long that I was starting to worry it wasn't going to happen but things are happening fast now :) Any support and well wishes would be great since I don't know many people in Ontario and I am very nervous/excited! I will be at St. Joe's with Dr. Hong

Hi Ally!! So glad you came out to play. All the best to you in your upcoming surgery!

When do you start your Optifast?

I start optifast on the 25th and my pre-surgery nutrition is on the 22nd. I am waiting for the pre-op appointments still. I am not super worried because I mostly live on squishy food anyway (I have a lot of recipes for cottage cheese) because my band is preventing food from going down so I feel like I am already ready to go.

Welcome Ally!

I had surgery 4 years ago at Toronto Western Hospital, I had the RNY done. Best decision I ever made!

You are in a growing majority of people here on OH who had/have a band that failed and they had to revise to RNY to save their life.

There is a Lap Band and a Revision forum as well where you can read about others who had the failed band.

For the people that I know who had the band and now have the RNY they say its the best thing they ever did and they love their RNY.

Best of luck, I hope you get surgery soon and get that band out!

Take care,

Daisy

Thank you so much! I can't wait to get it out and I was nervous about the RNY but I think I am pretty comfortable now. When I had the band there were no options so this time I feel much more prepared

Welcome, Ally!

I'm pre-op, so I don't have any information from personal experience.

Sending you tonnes of good wishes! :)
