Not sure if the vets will think this is okay but it's working for me so thought I'd pass it along. Regarding the Melba toast...I didn't want to eat it because of the carbs but you need something with crunch sometimes, it needed to be the same texture and melty once crunches and chewed up so what I found has worked is the Cello Parmesan Whisps found at Costco by the popcorn and chips. There's no carbs in them at all and it's literally just Parmesan cheese as the only ingredient. Bonus is that it adds protein. They are a bit high in fat but since I can only eat five at a time I'm not worried about that. I eat a half one in each bite and chew it super small, it ends up being like melty little bits of cheese, I use them to eat with laughing cow cheese like a cracker and also for the hummus to go on. I needed something to dip in hummus because I we can't have the raw veggies I would normally use but these work perfectly. Just remember to chew well.

My surgery was Feb 27th.

The post surgery diet is quite heavily milk/dairy based. I struggled for the first 10 days to keep water down and was drinking milk which is high in carbs but when you're getting almost nothing else in you take what you can.

Now at 2.5 weeks out it's getting easier. I pureed some chicken and added a tbsp of Greek yogurt to increase the protein. I also found these little cans of different flavoured tuna at Walmart that have 15-18g protein and 0-2g carbs which helps.

I also found something called Splash at GNC which is protein powder which tastes just like still pop/juice. I got the fuzzy peach and it's delicious (24g protein and 10oz fluid so win win). I haven't had any crackers or melba toast. I didn't think I could have those (and shan't try them)

It seems like every centre in Ontario varies a bit in what you can have, I can have flaky white fish at the pureed stage but not tuna (I asked as I like tuna). I've also been drinking the splash I got the blue raspberry flavour, still really sweet, but way better than the others I tried. For some reason chicken hasn't agreed with me but I can tolerate beef.

Hi Michelle

I know you have gotten tons of advice and this is coming a little late but I had an awfully hard time with fat early on and used plain yogurt for everything that I would normally use mayo for. Mayo made me physically ill. Melba rounds may not be the best idea coming off pureed foods, melba is pretty rough on a brand new baby tummy-pouch! I ate chicken with hot chicken sauce, low fat butter chicken sauce or with tzatiki-ish sauce that I made with a bit of feta and shredded cucumber. I found ground turkey a little easier with a touch of spaghetti sauce. I am almost four months out from surgery and find that I still need my meat very moist or with a bit of sauce. I am just now eating carbs since I can get in all my protein and sometimes have space after veg to get in some grains like quinoa.

I figured part of the reason for the melba toast is it basically desolved in your mouth when you crunch on it and it gives you a crunch food, I've only had saltines once I broke up a couple and put in my soup.

I'm trying to eat more meat and less soup now, I'm going to try making a couple recipes I got off the eggface site, I seem to have been incredibly lucky in that I've had not tummy trouble so far. But I've also been really careful and only eaten to the plan I was given. Although some people seem to have issues with the "plan" I've been given.

Maybe there are some people who dont like your plan, but you have to follow what your team wants you to do. I think that listening to people who have had surgery before you can help since they honestly want to help and there is not a problem that has not been discussed on the forum!
