Hiccups
Hi folks, heading home today. Wanted to check in about hiccups. I am Having trouble getting any food in. Since surgery I've had 60ls of jello and a quarter cup of broth. More concerning is it's taking a lot for me to ge****er in. I like the water but I just get hiccups every time I put anything in my mouth. I spread the 30 mls out over 15 minutes using a timer, generally 10 mls every five minutes, but get one or two hiccups each time I finish. Just clarifying...is this normal? Hurts like hell.

Taking a long time to drink is perfectly normal. Small sips is normal. Not being able to eat this early out is normal.
As for the hiccups, i would guess that you're taking in air when you're sipping, but i don't know for sure. Definitely call your clinic tomorrow... but I'm the meantime, pay attention to how you're drinking. Are you swallowing air with your sips? Any chance you're using a straw? Are you taking the whole 30 ml in one gulp? The 30 ml should, at this stage, take many sips to get down. Your stomach is so different now... it's tiny and has to heal.
I hope the hiccups pass quickly. They sound awful. Feel better quickly.

I'm drinking from the medicine cups, maybe I'm slurping too much...no straws, and was doing three or sips from the medicine cup. But I am trying to force them in to me because I feel I need to hit the four cups of water. Manual says 2-4 cups of water...maybe I should give myself a break on that. Was just thinking because I'm not getting anything else in. Hiccups were happening with small amounts of jello I was forcing at hospital too. Wondering if it's I'm too full too fast signal even though I was eating the 30 ml cups over 15 mins. I did make myself eat a half a yogurt tonight over a 2.5 period with lots of breaks. But that's all I had beyond water today. I'm going to call them and get a clear number of exactly wha****er I should be at three days out and how much food they expect. The manual shows 1/4 cup each of milk and oatmeal for breakfast on the liquid plan. There's no way. I literally could only eat yogurt mixed with protein powder today with a great amount of effort. Thanks for the support guys. Just feeling a little overwhelmed.

There was no way I could have that much that early on!! I was so overwhelmed just looking at a protein shake, and thinking about drinking it. Definitely cut yourself some slack.
Ok... so a few things: I would stay away from the jello for now. It doesn't seem to agree with you. Next, don't slurp. :) Let the liquid slide down your throat. Yogurt, I would dip my espresso spoon in and lick it... that's how I ate my yogurt for the first week. It took an hour or more to eat a yogurt. Be patient!!! Also, instead of adding protein powder to your yogurt, why not just have a protein shake, like a premier? Keep in mind, in the beginning, it would take me 2 hours to drink half of one.
Honestly... everything is different and overwhelming. Be patient. Know it's all good and it all gets better. Don't rush anything. You just had major surgery and your wounds inside are much worse than what you can see outside. You have to let yourself heal.
You got this. :)

Thanks...that's helpful that it's not just me thinking no way can I do that! I have a bunch of premiers but I was scared to drink them because the side of the container says to consult with a physician if taking blood thinners and I know I got a bunch of heparin in hospital so wasn't sure about that until I talked to someone. Thank you for your guidance!

All good! We all got the heparin... and the dietitians recommend Premier. You're good to go. :)
Keep is posted on how you're progressing!
