My husband finds the premiere shakes way too sweet, does anyone have an alternate suggestion? He is two weeks post op.

GNC makes a protein powder, Whey Isolate Splash, which is more juice based. I find I like it better than the pre mixed shakes. The premixed are obviously just easier to do, but mixing your own takes no time at all. Good luck.

You can really use any protein that fits into your centres criteria. I used Rivalus protein powder. I also used the unflavored whey protein in bulk at the Bulk barn. That one you can add to many things and it doesn't do much to the flavour.

I found that post surgery I was way more sensitive to sweetness.

Whatever you end up buying be careful of the carb/sugar content.

I have made my own shakes from Kaizen protein powder which was recommended to me by my centre. It was OK and not as sweet as the Premier. You can buy the powder at Costco.

I agree with everyone who posted so far. I couldn't stomach the premier protein either...anything sweet for that matter. Things really change after surgery in so many ways.

I have found a powder that I like - New Zealand Whey. I don't know where you are, but the only place I have been able to find it is at "Goodness Me" (Hamilton/Burlington/Brantford/Guelph).

Hope this helps.

2 weeks post op the main thing still is hydration. I was still on fluids at that point. The nutritionist recommended to add skim milk powder to my foods to increase the protein content.

Also, make soups with milk to increase protein. I was allowed to have protein shakes for the first month. My surgery was through Guelph and their post op food plan is pretty strict.

I had the same problem so I made jello with plain whey isolate protein powder, I made puddings with pp, I made warm soup(high heat kills the protein in powders) and mixed in pp etc etc anywhere I could hide it. I am three months post and still cannot stand the commercial pre sweetened shakes. The "splash" protein mixes or clear fruit protein drinks are not as bad for some reason. Now I make my own morning smoothies with unflavoured pp and greek yogurt with a splash of kefir as well as fruit and veg. I can get the protein content up pretty high.

If you go to GNC they will take back within 30 days any protein powder that hubby doesn't like.

I'm not sure if it would be too high in sugar but Carnation Breakfast Essentials Max Protein drink has 13g of sugar and 27g of protein. I found the taste inoffensive and not overly sweet.
