2 Weeks Down 1 To Go

I've been at the Optifast 2 weeks now and am really struggling with not eating anything, I'm down 20 pounds and at the back of my mind I think hey if I can lose 20 pounds why am I putting myself through this whole surgery thing.

I've got a little book I record my weight in to keep track, I've been using the same book for the last 6 years, looking back I can see all the times I've managed to lose 20 - 30 pounds only to gain it back again, managed to lose 50 pounds 10 years ago, my first goal is to get back into the clothes I bought then, after that I'll actually have to buy some, haven't been below that in 30 years.

My husbands been really supportive although I think he's getting tired of cheese sandwhiches and salad as he doesn't cook much, every time I'm like "couldn't I just have" he tells me you've got this, you've researched and planned for over a year you're making the right decision. It helps but boy this is hard.

Just looking for some support.

Congrats on the weight loss, and on 2 successful weeks! You're almost there; woohoo!

I totally get what you are saying, and I felt the same exact way on Opti. I lost 23 Lbs and really felt like I could continue with Opti.

I'm so glad that I went through with surgery though. I'm down 134 Lbs now, which is amazing to me.

Thanks, I'm finding the weekends hard, we would normally have gone out for breakfast or dinner and I'm missing that, looking forward to when I can eat eggs again and at least we can go out even if all I can eat is one soft poached egg, the owner of our favourite breakfast restaurant had bypass surgery a couple of years ago and has lost 250 lbs he and his wife have been great with tips and encouragement.

Wow, 250 Lbs and a restaurant owner. Wow; talk about an amazing accomplishment.

You'll be able to eat eggs again. I was able to eat them on the puree portion of my plan, mixed with Greek yogurt and a bit of miracle whip and paprika; it made a nice egg salad, albeit very smooth, lol. I think I started having a one egg omelet at around 3 or 4 months post op.

I too lost a good chunk of weight on Opti and I had the same thoughts as you. If I can do this, WHY am I having surgery? Then I had a talk with myself and reminded myself that the surgery was going to be my forever tool to make sure I didn't gain it back and that it wasn't just about losing weight on Opti. It was about CHANGING. It was a tough talk I had with myself.

I'm glad I had the surgery.

You will get to go out for breakfast again. I went out the other day for the first time. The waitress was great. I ordered from the kids menu. LOL I had a poached egg, 1 piece of peameal bacon, 1 tomato slice and 1 piece of dry whole wheat toast.

I ate the egg, 1/2 the peameal, 1/4 piece of toast and the tomato slice. All good.

It will happen.

You're doing great!

Hey Michelle, same thing happened to me and I ALSO have a little black weight loss book. Good times, good times. That little book should reassure you that you are making the right decision because if you look back at the weight gains and losses you just keep creeping a little bit higher every time. The surgery is going to stop that and help you move forward.

I was not a fast loser but who cares as long as you get there! I know the newbies check the trackers and the signatures so although I kind of lost track of how the rest of the weight came off, you should know that it was not fast and furious but it was slow and steady!

current BMI 24.7 that, my friends, is NORMAL!!! Strong is the new pretty!

Stay the course, you can do this! I too have had the same thoughts but I know if I stop the process now odds are my weight will be heavier than ever in 6 months. I definately need this tool. I have four days of Opti down and 10 to go, I don't envy you having to do three weeks but you are getting so close and are almost there! Good Luck, just think of all the things you are looking forward to doing with the new you!
