Good morning everyone. Lisa i could sure use some of your turkey chili today, it is cold.

The service centre did not fix my car yesterday, so they have given me a rental until they can figure it out. I also saw my doctor yesterday and he is very happy with me. Bloodwork was good, and BP is excellent, weight good.

Today I'm going swimming, to yoga, and then to the gym. DH and I didn't make it to the movie last night, but we are going tonight instead.

Accountability: Yesterday some Costco samples ambushed me and got in my mouth. Not good.

The eats today at 3.5 years post-op:

B. Buckets of decaf throughout the day, Protein coffee shake

L. Chicken salad made with diced chicken, walnuts, sliced apple, sweet peppers and WF Honey/Dijon dressing

S. Costco rotisserie chicken salad on cucumber crackers

D. Salmon with a poached egg on top, Hollandaise, French green beans.

Totals: 893, Carbs 25, Fibre 10, Fat 56, Protein 72

Have a great day everyone.

Good morning CC!! Sorry to hear about your car, that sucks that they don't know what the issue is.

I've been awake since 1:47 this morning. I started to drift off in the 4:30 hour but my alarm went off at 6 so no I didn't get much sleep and there was no way I was getting up for the gym. I will go to the community centre at lunch time and do laps there.

Good morning all,

Chili is on the menu for me today as well. I find it tasty, filling and easy on my pouch. The only challenge is that my family likes it too and if I don't package some and put it away (in the freezer or bring it to work), the fruit of my labour disappears.

I hear you about the Costco samples and have decided not to partake at all - accept for the Tide pods (lol). I was there with my husband and they had a cracker they were highlighting with cheese on top. He asked if I was going to try it; I said no. He asked again saying you can eat that - even if it's just the cheese. I said no. He opened his mouth again, looked at my face, and we walked on. I'm trying really hard to eat what and when I'm supposed to and no more. Justifications are slippery slopes to me. I'll try to keep reminding myself of this - for the rest of my life.

Eats today at 10 months post op are:

B - Protein shake and bogs of black decaf.

S - Armstrong cheese stick

L - 3/4 cup of homemade chili

D - 1 cup beef barley soup, 4 Mary's crackers and 1 oz. Havarti cheese

S - 3/4 cup plain Greek yogurt, 1/4 cup low fat granola and sliced strawberries

Calories: 858, Protein: 67, Carbs: 81. All water and vitamins.

C.C. Carbs are coming from the chili (good) and the granola (tasty, but not necessary. Should I just be omitting that from my snack? I like the crunch, but have avoided almost all other grains for a reason (no bread, pasta, rice). The odd sweet potato, little or no new potatoes, and Mary's crackers the odd time. My vegetables and fruit have fallen off and I am still working on better meal plans and more advanced preparation. All advice helps - many thanks.

Linda i would lose the granola for now. Birdiegirl always says pedal to the metal until you hit goal. Once you are in maintenance is the time to play with more carby foods. Some on here never do go back to a more carby diet and follow a keto diet so that they don't have to deal with cravings. If you are missing crunch, you can add chia, hemp, sunflower seeds to your yogurt. That will also up your fibre.

Your sense of humour is wonderful - bogs of decaf.

Until you are at goal it's always protein first and then if you have room, non-starchy veg. Some of the things that you've listed will still be there once you are in maintenance. Linda why not cut the carbs to under 50, and keep the calories in the 650-850 range for 2 weeks and see what happens. Because you are closer to your goal, it takes more effort.

Breakfast Calories kcal Carbs g Fat g Protein g Fiber g Sugar g
Premier Protein - Vanilla Protein Shake, 11 oz 160 4 3 30 2 1

I made a few changes to your menu for today, and you can see that the protein is much higher and the carbs are quite a bit lower. It's basically the same menu with small changes. Not sure if this helps.

Thank you for this - I so appreciate what you have provided. Birdie Girl is a wise owl - as are you. I will do so. My protein has always been much higher and my carbs lower, but as pointed out, some of my choices has changed this.

I am very committed, as you know, and will make the changes accordingly. Next week I will do just protein and dairy for a week and see what happens.

You're the greatest mentor - I think I'll adopt you!
