Met the Surgeon/Non-Opti Diet
So I just met the surgeon at TWH on Friday and everything went good. I don't have a surgery date yet but they said probably early May.
I told the nurse that I cannot take opti fast and they forwarded me to a dietitian. Long story short I got an option to eat a high protein, low carb/veggie with no dairy restricted 900 cal/day diet, or I can do Slim time.
What would you do? I think I should eat the food but I still have time to choose between actual food and Slim time. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I was so excited to meet the surgeon. I already went through this process last year but it was still new and exciting all the same.

I would say do real food and track on MFP. You should start tracking post-op, so this will help get you in the habit.

I am thinking real food would be the better option too. I am just confused as to if I will have shrunken my liver enough for them to do the surgery. But I guess they should know what works.
Is fitness pal better than MyNetDiary? I am using that app right now and I love that I can scan the barcode and the item comes up automatically. Maybe I will look into MFP.
Thanks for the advice.
My fitness Pal is probably the same as your app. Track your numbers. Track and measure everything, even a spoon full of cream. You want to keep your carbs as low as possible to shrink your liver. Eat lean protein, low carb veg like green beans, peppers, mushrooms (no squash, potatoes, sweet potatoes, or other starchy veg.) You can buy Keto sticks from the pharmacy that will tell you if your body is producing ketones (may take up to 5 days before you see an significant amount of ketones).

Hands down, food. But I'm not tolerating opti so perhaps I'm not the best voice lol.
an update from me, I actually got switched from opti to food or diabetic boost today...turns out it's the aspartame that is making me ill...should've clued into that before now. I've had troubles in the past with it. I'm thankful to have had the time on opti to detox...but honestly, if you have the will power, food it out.
I would definitely do the food, although you will need to keep a tight rein on yourself, I started Opti today, and the only thing good about it that I can see is there are no options, so as long as you don't cheat you will achieve the goal.

Honestly, I don't trust myself enough to do the food. I've done OPTI before, and thankfully had no issue with it and it helped me detox from sugar and processed foods. If I were to eat, I probably would end up bending the rules too much to be successful. When I did my OPTI they recommended I didn't have any broth or jello like others because it could be trigger.
(I did opti before because I was in the surgery process, but got scared of the surgery and cancelled 2 days before i was to go under the knife. Now i'm back and ready to commit to the tool and all it can help me with)
