Checking In at 3 Weeks Out

Hi Everyone,

So after my last update and all the drama, things have settled down nicely and I'm progressing well.

I've been following instructions, adding new foods slowly and I'm having no issues whatsoever. I'm not nauseous and NEVER have been. Everything I've tried has sat well. Scrambled eggs, smoked salmon, peanut butter, I even had butter chicken tonight and it wasn't pureed. I just took tiny bites and chewed it well. All is good.

I'm hitting my protein targets easily and all my liquids and vitamins and supplements are on track.

Tonight I went to Starbucks at Indigo and had a skinny decaf caramel macchiato! Whoo hoo! I feel human again. LOL

I don't feel restriction but I understand that's normal at this stage. I'm just very careful with my portioning. I'm not hungry at all. Hallelujah!

It was funny tonight at Indigo. I always gravitate to the Health and Wellness section and the cooking section. Tonight, by force of habit, that's where I went. I bought nothing. None of it interested me. The latest diet trends, (which I always bought a book about), were boring. The cookbooks, held nothing interesting for me. I was bored by the whole thing.

What did grab my attention was the Fashion Magazine section. I did buy a magazine or two, which touted the newest fashions for Spring/Summer 2018. Now that caught my attention and got me excited. How different a month or two changes everything. I can't wait to get into some new clothes.

I'm losing weight at a good pace and I'm thrilled. I know I'm in the honeymoon phase of things but I'm going to make the most of it while I can.

When I started this journey, even before I got my referral, I weighed in at 283 lbs. I chose to get on track before surgery and made changes so I lost weight before I had the surgery. Today, I weighed in at 210 lbs. I've lost 73 lbs since May and I am over the moon.

My one and only complaint is my energy level. Man, oh man, do I get tired easily. I've never been a napper, but I have been the last two weeks. I can barely keep my eyes open past 9:00 pm. I know this will pass, but I'm a real go getter. I don't sit around much, so this is actually kind of hard on me.

I'm going back to work next week part days. By 3:00 pm I'm pretty much done. I'm much better in the mornings.

I hope everyone is doing well. For those heading into surgery, I wanted you to know that it's not all bad, with complications, pain, etc. Everyday is better than the day before and I don't regret, for a second, making this choice.

Glad you are doing well.. just a heads up a Skinny Caramel Macchiato may have made you feel human again but the name is deceiving. a 16 ounce cup has 18 grams of sugar and 21 carbs, the cals are low but you have to watch the amounts of sugars and carbs you intake. I am now four years out and that amount of sugar at once would make me dump. Just be careful, your new pouch can handle only so much.

I'm good. I had the tall and no caramel on top. Cut out a bunch of the carbs. :)

You do understand you should not be consuming this especially so early out. Im glad you are good, however 18 grams of sugar is huge. You had this surgery to make a life style change, keep stuff like this up you will not be successful. Im not going to tell you it is ok to do this to make you feel better, it is not ok. You should be following the clinics guidelines. This is not an easy ride that you can eat or drink anything you like, sure the honey moon stage is good, but 10-1 keep this up and you will be gaining weight back.

Thank you for your input.

I think you misunderstand what my drink was.

Steamed unsweetened almond milk is 30 calories, 2.5 g. of fat and 1 carb - NO SUGAR

1 shot of decaf coffee - 0 calories, 0 carbs, 0 SUGAR

1 shot sugar free caramel syrup - 0 calories, 1 carb - NO SUGAR

At the end of the day my modified drink was 30 calories, 2 carbs, 2.5 g. of fate and NO SUGAR

All of these foods, calorie amounts etc., fall well within my clinic guidelines. Everything I am doing is within my clinic guidelines.

Hey J!

So glad to hear that you are doing so well after the little post-op bump in the road that you had.

Knowing how diligent you have been with your habits and diet pre-op, I have no doubt that you have been following the guidelines and will be successful. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Hope to see you at the next get-together!

Glad things are now going well. Take things slow and steady. Try new foods at home just in case you don't react well. Staying well hydrated will help with your energy levels, and avoid many issues. You've got this girl.
