Abnormal Pap Smear - pre WLS

I had to have a pap smear done as part of the process for the WLS. I had it done before Christmas and assumed it was all fine because the NP said she was waiting for the results before passing me to the surgeon. When I got the call from the clinic to book my OTN and have subsequently been given my surgery date I thought all was good in the hood.

I just got a call from my family Dr to say my pap was abnormal and I have been referred to a specialist to have a colposcopy done. Now I realise the NP didn't have the results back and progressed me anyway.

I'm so unsure if I should be calling the clinic and telling them about this because I think they'd delay my surgery if they knew. I don't want to be sneaky and not tell them because I know they delay things for good reason.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

I would say to call them. Your safety is more important than a moved surgery date. I know you want to get the surgery done, we all do, but be safe. There is a reason they suggested it. Also, you said it yourself " it is part of your WLS pre-op", so please tell them. You might be surrised that it's not a big deal. You also don't want them to open you and close you up, or disqualify you because they felt you lied. Godluck and sorry about this. Take care.

I haven't lied! The wouldn't think I'd lied because I haven't. When I had the pap done the Dr cc'd the bariatric clinic in on the results at my request so they'll be getting a copy of the results anyway. I will call them next week and see what they have to say though.

When they open me up they better not be anywhere near my cervix ;)

I did not say you lied. I think you read my message wrong. I simply said that just be transparent in Case they accuse you of lying. Happy to hear it worked out.

I've emailed the surgeons office and explained what the Dr told me about the pap smear and asked if this was an issue and would be cause to delay my surgery. I'll wait and see what they have to say.

For the first time in history I've had a reply within a few minutes of sending my email "your gynecological issues will not cause any delay or impact the bariatric surgery" is what they said so that answers the question really :)

I think it was a good idea to let the surgeon know. I had an abnormal pap once years ago and the only thing the dr. did was suggest I have a pap every six months. I did this for awhile until I had several with normal results, then I went back to a regular pap schedule. I never had another abnormal result again. I am so glad I don't have to go through that anymore. I am sure everything will work out and you will be fine.

Your instinct is correct call the clinic and let them know. A couple of weeks is nothing compared to the rest of your life.

My surgeon said he's not worried and it won't impact my surgery. I'm glad I checked if only for my own peace of mind.
