Why not Mexico
So I know I really want VSG, but maybe can't get it back Bader OHIP, so I thought why not look ð?'? into Dr.A . He has an opening in 5 weeks, which is pretty exciting . But when I mentioned this to my husband he suddenly got all scared that I was going to die on the table , though he's had no fears at all about me doing this in Toronto .
Mid it crazy to think about Mexico . Dr.A seems to have an excellent reputation .
aldo, if I get it done there and have any kind of problem when I get back will local bariatric surgeons refuse to treat me?
What dr . A?

So... I am curious why you think you won't wual for VSG through OHIP; and also, why you are so sure VSG is the right option for you?
No judgment, just curiosity. I originally wanted VSG as well, and changed my mind to RNY as I learned more. I don't think it's a better surgery; I just thought it was right for me for many reasons.
I do not know about post care in Ontario for surgery in Mexico. I would not travel and self pay for something I can have done locally that is supported by my health care system. For me, it's a trust thing. But many people do successfully. You need to do what you believe is right... not what I believe is right.

No.. I don't believe you will be able to get help here from bariatric surgeons unless you need a revision etc. I know you also won't have any of the access to the nutritionist and other support as well.. I know quite a few people that have gotten the sleeve here in ontario. Yes.. mexico will be quicker for you.. but sometimes quicker isn't always the answer

In Ontario you will be followed for 3 years by the centre. They provide much needed follow-up. You will not be able to access any of the programs they offer.
You will have to ensure you have extensive blood work done on a bi-yearly basis to ensure your vitamin levels remain high.
How confident are you in following up on your own care?
As a breast cancer survivor I spent 9 years on estrogen blockers which resulted in some bone loss, mild osteoporosis and I worry about malabsorption . I need all the calcium I can get and my go tells me to not take too much because it can negatively affect the heart. So at my age I don't want it to get worse. Also there is a higher rate of abdominal blockages in patients over 65 4-5 years out from RNY .
i learned today I meet the surgeon on Friday, which is pretty exciting. Yes, I'd rather stay within our wonderful health care system. So I'll talk it out with him then.
