I am home.
I was sent home yesterday afternoon. They were concerned that my oxygen level was not consistently high enough and I had some spectacular bruising and ports that bled when I stood up.
The oxygen level I think I can explain. I suffer from anxiety and when I am anxious, I hold my breath a bit. It happens unconsciously while I am wide awake but it sure does make alarms go off.
The bruising and bleeding, I have no clue. It?s not internal bleeding, just subcutaneous but it is pretty extensive and ugly. I also leaked a trail from one port every time I got up to walk. Eventually, they put 4 stitches in and a pressure dressing.
All that said, I am not unhappy with the treatment I received. Humber is a fantastic hospital and I had two nurses assigned to me that were lovely, kind and attentive.
I am getting my fluids and full liquids in although I do not feel much like eating. I had one moment of abject ?what the hell did I do? panic but it passed and I am fine and happy. I get the stitches out in a week and we will see if they shed any light. I?m curious to know if anyone else had extensive bruising, so please let me know. Many many thanks for all your well wishes.
Leslie

Welcome home! Keep on getting well. I had the biggest bruise I've ever had on my stomach post surgery. It took a while to heal, and was surprising!!

Glad you are home. I'm sure it will be much easier to heal and rest at home.
Hope these are the last speed bumps of your recovery.
Take care
Hi Leslie! Glad to hear you're managing well! I had one incision site that was bleeding and very badly bruised. I can send you a pic if you're curious but it was roughly the size of a grapefruit and very ugly but it eventually went away. It took forever for my front two incisions to fully heal. About 3 months! Must have been where the majority of the tools went in and the glue never seemed to work on those two. Thankfully at almost 4 months out they're fully healed up! Try not to stress about them! I know it's hard especially when they're bleeding. The stitches seem like a good call so sounds like you're being well taken care of!

My bruise is about the size of 4 grapefruits. I think it is too big. But it is good to know others had big bruises too...at least it stopped growing

Yeah that's a decent bruise!! Definitely bigger than a grapefruit. Maybe you should ask if it might have been caused by blood thinners. That's what I expect mine was from. It was near by where the nurses were injecting the blood thinners. I can see why you'd be concerned though. I'm sure it's fine just keep an eye on it.

Yup that's a beauty. Hopefully it will fade quickly, but until then I think you are going to see all of the colours of the rainbow.

Awww, yeah... I can see why you'd be leary of your bruise. That's a bigger version of what inhad... scary, shocking, for sure. The body is a wonderful thing and it will heal.
Get lots of rest so your body can repair itself. Be well. :)

I'm so glad you're home and recovering, and I'm so sorry about that massive bruise. OMG; I can see why you're concerned. I hope you're not in too much pain.
I bruise easily and didn't have anything like that; just small bruises around ea*****ision. Did they give you any explanation as to the cause? I'd be calling to ask.
This first week is the hardest so hang in.
