Is Premier Protein exchangable for optifast? I am in BC and I dont see optifast out here....Is Optifast special or surgeons choice or does it matter? What do I need to have in the house for food the first couple of weeks post op and is there optimal products? It seems so overwhelming all the vitamins, broths shakes liquid vs powder etc

No, they are two quite different things in terms of calories/fat/sugar etc. Optifast is by prescription only in Ontario, you can't just get it off the shelf. I am still pre-op but after surgery has been suggested to have the protein powders/shakes, broth, Greek yogurt, cream soups etc.

Optifast is prescription only from Medical suppliers, not something that you can purchase at a drugstore.
Your centre should have given you a full list of what to eat and when in the weeks/months following surgery. If not, ask them for one. Its way too much info to try to be rememebering.

I went through TWH and they gave us this guide:

Even within Ontario, the guidelines change by centre. You'll want to make sure you consult with your centre to understand what their requirements are for you pre and post surgery.

To answer your question directly though, Premier Protein and Opti are not interchangeable. At my centre (and I'm sure all), we are advised not to have Opti post surgery even if we have any leftover because the sugar is too high. It is specially formulated for us with vitamins and minerals for us to live on exclusively for weeks leading up to surgery, but not appropriate for our new pouches.

I had Premier Protein post surgery. I also had strained soup, and yogurt that fit within my centre's guidelines, and some cottage cheese. It takes a while to get food (even liquid food) in at the beginning. One Premier took me two hours to drink!!

Everything normalizes after a while. Slowly but surely. Patience for yourself and your new pouch is the most important. :)
