Ward rooms at St. Michael's?
Hi All...again...sorry sooo many questions rattling around in my brain. I had read from someone about being in a ward room at St. Michael's - does anyone know if they have any semi-private or private rooms that might be available? I know it would be based on whether there are any available at the time of surgery if there are some but unsure if that is even an option or if they only have ward beds because it's an older hospital. Just thought I'd see if anyone knows.

It's all such a blur to me right now from almost a year ago but I believe they have semi private. Which I had. My roommate had also had RNY. I don't believe they had private because I had asked for one.

Thank you...I figure it's a long shot to get even a semi private but my thought is if I mention my insurance will pay for it maybe they will want to make the money and try to make it happen. A private would be amazing but I am not holding out hope.

I see you have Dr Grantcharov as a surgeon; He is amazing; very very thorough and easy to talk to.
He never rushes you through questions or concerns even after surgery when you may have issues.
I had surgery 3 years ago at St. Mikes and requested a private room; none available so they gave me a semi which was amazing. Better than that my roommate did not come in so I had a semi private room - huge - turn into a private room. Even the nurses liked to hang around with me in my big room-they would tease me and call me a princess lol lol
Regardless what you get ward, semi private or private the staff is amazing.
Good luck; walk as soon as you can-their gift shop is great.

Thank you so much, I had been wanting some information from people on their experiences at St. Mike's and love that you had Dr. Grantcharov. I did my teleconference with him yesterday and he was super nice. I am thankful to have been assigned to him because I felt good with him and have confidence in him.
I asked about the private/semi-private and he noted it on my chart re:the insurance so I am hopeful I may be successful in the semi private, he also told me to mention it to his assistant when she calls to remind her for this request. He did say a private will not happen as they have the rooms in certain areas so you can be closely monitored but there are semiprivates available which I am completely okay with. And hey...maybe I'll get as lucky as you did and be a princess too lol!
Happy to hear about the staff being so awesome! Thanks for the feedback.
