Hello Ilelas

I had one bah of potassium through In and it burned but still not as bad as drinking it. They wanted me off the if yo make sure I could bold everything down since that was a huge struggle the first 3 days.

I am sorry to hear of your complications and I agree, I love hearing people with out issues and those who get to go home early.

If something like that happened in the United States the patient would be filing a huge lawsuit.

Not having the pain medicine needed would be malpractice here. I wonder if you should talk to a lawyer.

It's an interesting question. There is no reason to leave a patient in pain even for a minute. The pain meds are standard practice. Inremember waking up in the recovery room with the most shearing pain I've ever felt tearing through my stomach. I still don't remember how I communicated that I needed pain meds, but I did. I have a vague recollection of them adding the pain meds to my IV, and I woke up again and was "fine".

Anything less than that would have been malpractice in my books too, since that is the "standard" practice. It's what I was told would be available; it's what was available.

Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. Choose happy.

I am a American in Canada and I understand were you are coming from. My husband is in touch with the hospital and they talk about trying to figure out what went wrong to prevent it from happening again.

They need a better system and process for when they are making changes. When you are taking on a new program everyone must also use the old program until everyone is on board. Yes it might take 2 more extra minutes but I think as all surgical patients we would be fine with that to guartenee success with out issues.

Yes, I agree. I'm Canadian too, and if they would have withheld pain meds after my surgery, I would have sued them.
