Pre-op - need to buy some new clothes but so close to surgery
I'm at the end of my process almost and I'm just waiting to meet the surgeon. The trouble is, I have a 4 day work event in January (I work remotly and only see my colleagues 3-4 times a year) and then a trip home to the UK for a week in Feb. I need to buy some new work stuff (OK I don't need to, I just don't like wearing the same stuff they saw me wear last time).
My issue is, plus size clothes are so expensive and I don't want to shell out $80-$120 each for 3 or 4 new dresses when I'm sooooo close to losing a ton of weight. Hubby said it doesn't matter and just to buy some stuff in my current size but it feels so very wasteful.
What did you guys do at this funny in between stage? I guess it's the same as you're losing weight and haven't reached your final size and need to shop regularly? Thrift stores don't often carry 3X-4X (and I'm 5'10 so getting length and width is hard in thrift stores).

its an issue that you will be dealing with for a while now. As you start to lose you will change sizes quickly, and I know that I hated wearing something that was too big when I was so proud of getting smaller.
The only advice I can think of is to look for some great boxing day sales, or even wait until further into January when prices may really come down.

Value Village is my friend. I'm close to surgery as well and I am in desperate need of new clothes. To be honest, I bought some nice leggings which seem to have a longer life and some big tops and those babies are going to get me through the next little while.
Funny you should post this today. I was doing laundry last night and almost everything that came out of the dryer got folded and went into the garbage bag headed for Value Village.
I am in dire need of new clothes but with surgery 3 weeks away I just cannot pull the trigger on serious clothes buying.

The transition is tough, but so worth it!!
Too bad you don't live closer... oh, and we're not closer in height! I'm only 5'2, but I've been transitioning my closet. I've given a bunch of things away to fellow OH'ers. I have more things that I will be giving away in the next while.
On the flip side, I've been really blessed to have a number of items given to me.
Maybe you can start a thread about starting a clothing exchange in Sudbury? I know there are quite a few local folks who come to this forum... maybe someone has items to donate to you... and you can pay it forward now or when you're ready.
Last resort... there should be some great sales coming up. Or... so what if you wear some of the same things as last year? Judgment schudgment!! :)
Good luck!!

Have you checked out Varagesale? It's a virtual garage sale, you should be able to find great stuff there.
I need new scrubs but I'm determined to make what I have make it until my surgery which may not be until next summer. I keep on eye on the clearance racks.
Like you I just can't justify spending the money when my life is so close to changing.

I have been using value village. I am finding it hard to find pants that are the normal 30inch inseam. They are mostly long. I would say give it a whirl. You only need 1 or 2 pairs and some tops to mix it up.

I don't know where u live but in Windsor the Goodwill is a great place to go too. Its my best friend. Don't waste your money buying new stuff. The next time they see u you can blow them away at all brand spanking hip stuff! Who cares what they think and if they remember what u wore from last time they have some real issues lol! U got this girl. They weight came off in inches on me much faster then the scale moved but everyone is different! I was also a 4X some 5X due to me being 5'10 as well. Heavest weight 287lbs and now almost 11 months out 174lbs. People r telling me to stop losing now, The scale is moving slowly like maybe 1-2 every 2 weeks but they tell.me every time they see me I'm smaller. Best of luck and congradulations on your up coming date!
